Mike (miketma) | 65 comments Recently read and listened to, after many hours in the car from Massachusetts to Virginia and back again and several Conn. to Mass. trips thrown in over the past month:

5.1 At the Shore - Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway, Read by Donald Sutherland. Audio books rely so much on the reader and Sutherland is great, although you really have to turn up the volume when he starts whispering the text.

5.7 Don't Stop Reading - On the Road by Kerouac, read by Will Patton and Dean said "yes, yesss, yesssssss!" Is it possible that the audio book is better than the book? Wow. It just may be. The performance by Patton is enthused and grizzled, and brings out the best in Kerouac.

10.10 S'More: Sweet Thursday by Steinbeck - a great bookend to Cannery Row. Very, um, sweet. I was going to save this for the Tuesday/Belgium task, but . . .

15.10 Summertime and the reading is easy - I went to meditation camp in Virgina and read Morning Talks by Kirpal Singh. Very pleasant and practical without being preachy.
