Gayla Bassham (sophronisba) | 64 comments 30.7 Jennifer N's task: Choose Your Own Adventure – SRC Style

Choose an author you read and hopefully enjoyed (but that’s not a requirement) from last year’s summer challenge or if you didn’t participate last year choose one of your favorite authors. Enter the author into the Literature Map.

I did not participate in last year's summer challenge, so I chose Claire Tomalin as one of my favorite writers.

For the first book:

Option 2 – If you are feeling a little adventurous but don’t want to take it too far – choose an author that appears on the literature map that you have read before and read a new to you book from that author.

I chose Julian Barnes.

The Sense of an Ending

For the second book:

Option B – If you liked the first book but don’t want to read another book by the same author – Go back to the beginning and enter the author of the first book you read into the literature map and select from Options 1, 2 or 3.

I chose option 2 again, and chose Iris Murdoch.

Terri FL (territhemuse) | 615 comments 5.4. S U M M M M M M E R - Read 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill. I guess the ll in Hill is obvious.

15.10 Summertime, And the Reading is Easy - Read Jar of Fools by Jason Lutes. This was a graphic novel and a much needed bit of diversion after just moving to a new country and a new job! However, I found it quite disturbing.

20.1 Most Improved Player - Ashley FL's task: Birthday Time! - Read Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome. My birthday is July 3 so I chose option 2. Put off reading this and well worth waiting for!

20.3 Best Review Contest - Sera's task: Happy, Happy, Happy! - Read Time Out 1000 Things to Do in London by Time Out. At the moment, nothing is making me happier then discovering my new home!

20.5 Bigger is Better - Sue T's task: Family Reunion - Read The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. I chose option c. This is set mainly in London where I am now and where I lived as a young girl in the 80's.

20.6 Seasoned Reader - Heather KS's task: Summer Reading - Read Women in Late Antiquity: Pagan and Christian Lifestyles byGillian Clark. Read pretty much most of this while travelling, on the plane, bus and train. While some of that may seem weird as a summer activity, all of this is novelty to me and enjoyable!

20.10 Group Read - Read Madame Tussaud: A Novel of the French Revolution by Michelle Moran. My comment posted on the discussion board.

25.1 -- Denise NC's task: Tennis, Anyone?

Book 1 - Read The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break: A Novel by Steven Sherrill. Contains the word 'break'.

Book 2 - Read Double Fault by Lionel Shriver. This was about 2 tennis pros that married. There was not one page in this book that was not about tennis!

25.3 - Sandy's task: The Ice Cream Truck

Book A - Chose #5. Read Cadence of the Moon by Oscar Nunez Olivas. This is a crime novel set in Costa Rica

Book B - Chose #6. Read Beloved by Toni Morrison. This has been made into a movie.

Book A - Read A Treasury of Royal Scandals: The Shocking True Stories History's Wickedest, Weirdest, Most Wanton Kings, Queens, Tsars, Popes, and Emperors by Michael Farquhar. I could never really say that I have a 'best friend', but I currently have a very good friend whose name is Michael. I hope that is sufficient!

Book B - Chose #2. Read Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris. This has 7 words in the title. Ended up being a reread but Sedaris is always worth it!

30.2 -- Sheila/Wendy UK's task: A.K.A. I found out through this task that John Banville writes suspense/crime novels under the name of Benjamin Black!

Book A - Read The Infinities by John Banville

Book B - Read Christine Falls by Benjamin Black

30.3 -- DLMRose's task: If It’s Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium.

Book A - Read The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham. Spooky!

Book A - Read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Fits H & 1 & 3

Book B - Read Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne. Fits I

Book C - Read The Naughty Bits: The Steamiest and Most Scandalous Sex Scenes from the World's Great Books by Jack Murnighan. Fits A & 2.

Jack Murnighan is a goodreads author so I claim one ticket.

Outlander is 850 pages long so I claim 2 big book tickets.

My birthday is 3rd June, so I read:

Third Girl by Agatha Christie

20.9 - Summerthing Better

Stress-Proof Your Life (52 Brilliant Ideas): Smart Ways to Relax and Re-energize by Elisabeth Wilson

There never seems to be enough time to do all the things I want to do as well as all the things I ought to do. I tried one of the suggestions in this book and got through all my housework and laundry like a whirlwind! It really helped me to overcome procrastination! Then I had all the rest of the week to do what I wanted without feeling guilty.
