Great looking blog! I'm tucking it away for the afternoon. But... I don't get the joke: writer, agent, editor in a bar?

message 460: by Barbara (last edited Jun 11, 2012 11:47AM) (new)

Barbara Rogan (barbararogan) | 33 comments Thanks, Andrew. The line you reference was the opening to my first blog post ever, just a month ago. It went something like

"A writer, an agent and an editor walked into a bar.

'What'll it be?' asked the bartender.

'Scotch,' she said."

(She being me: I've been all three.)

Somehow I doubt that. But I'm relieved---you had me thinking it was the world's dumbest intro!

I hope you'll stop in at http://www.jamesrcallan.com/blog/ and leave a comment. It was an interesting blog to write and made me really stop and consider the characters I've created.

Barbara Rogan (barbararogan) | 33 comments MEDICALERT: It's not yet in the DSM, but Premature Submission is a very real malady, and it targets novelists in particular.

The prognosis is grim: Premature Submission can lead to Premature Rejection, among other complications. But the good news is, it's curable...if you recognize the symptoms in time.

Read all about them, and join me in stamping out the scourge of PS. http://barbararogan.com/blog/

message 487: by Beth (new)

Beth I was picked for a jury for a criminal trial in late June. I am reporting on the experience on my blog today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. I tried to focus on aspects of the experience that would be of interest to mystery readers and writers. I hope you find the report interesting and useful.

Has anyone else served on a jury? For a murder trial, in particular?

message 488: by Ken (new)

Ken Consaul | 307 comments Beth wrote: "Has anyone else served on a jury? For a murder trial, in particular?"

I've served on a felony meth production jury and on attempted murder jury. Slam dunks on both and the deliberation was only a couple hours on each. The attempted murder was videotaped. Guy cleaned up nice for the courtroom though.

Friend served on a seven month long trial of a trucker who was a serial killer/trophy collector, Wayne Adam Ford.
My friend had a rough time for long after the trial.

message 489: by Beth (new)

Beth Interesting stories, Ken! I think I would have trouble with a serial killer/trophy collector trial, too, especially if the trophies were gruesome. In my case, the defendant showed up in shorts and a T-shirt for the trial. I couldn't believe that the defense attorney let him get away with that!

I just posted the second half of a wide-ranging interview of literary agent Gail Hochman. She talks about what she looks for in a query; what every writer should ask before signing on with an agent; the state of the industry and where it's heading, and much more.
