You're quite right. Our society has become overly protective and what it is producing is immature adults who are ill equiped to face the harsh reality of life. A little less coddling and a little more honesty would help young people to cope with the future. People do get raped and killed and tortured in this world -- every hour of every day. We need to face it - not glorify it, not heroize it -- but not hide it either.

I'd like to see some older adults face reality, too. I'm truly tired of political correctness. And what fun is it for a writer if their book has to be labeled?

There's only one problem with it: Ibelin was far from dry and dusty. Like most of the coastal plain of the crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem, Ibelin lay in the "land of milk and honey" -- a blooming landscape with rich agricultural production.
