Helena Schrader | 104 comments Marja,
You're quite right. Our society has become overly protective and what it is producing is immature adults who are ill equiped to face the harsh reality of life. A little less coddling and a little more honesty would help young people to cope with the future. People do get raped and killed and tortured in this world -- every hour of every day. We need to face it - not glorify it, not heroize it -- but not hide it either.

I'd like to see some older adults face reality, too. I'm truly tired of political correctness. And what fun is it for a writer if their book has to be labeled?

Helena Schrader | 104 comments Remember the line from "The Kingdom of Heaven":
"Your father was important, Ibelin is not.... This is a dry and dusty place."
There's only one problem with it: Ibelin was far from dry and dusty. Like most of the coastal plain of the crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem, Ibelin lay in the "land of milk and honey" -- a blooming landscape with rich agricultural production.
