Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments I'm going to start the novel shortly, but I read some reviews and some of them made me wonder how everyone likes the steampunk elements in this book?

Kate Copeseeley (airdriesg) I absolutely LOVED way Westerfeld combined fantasy and steampunk with real historic events. He did a lot of research before writing this book, that is obvious. Very well done.

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments I became more interested once I understood this as an alternate history to WWI Europe. The steampunk elements just added some spice.

Jean Hontz (majkia) wow, I don't know where you saw the negative comments, other than perhaps someone whinging about genetic manipulation so out of its timeline, but honestly, this is an alternate world and things happen in different order. And I loved the idea of Darwinists vs Clankers as the method of divisiveness rather than the tired old standard things.

Who said anything about negative comments?

Jean Hontz (majkia) I must have misread your first post then. sorry.

Chantal Grech I thought it was really well done the way he integrated the different types of technology into each culture. I also liked how it worked with the story line instead of overpowering it.

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 55 comments i love steampunk and i loved the steampunk elements...all handled very well in my opinion.

i particularly enjoyed the depiction of the actual Leviathon. fascinating!

JoLene (trvl2mtns) Sorry a bit late to the party.....I really liked the contrast of the biological with the mechanical. Steampunk is a very hot sub-genre these days so people are looking for and liking those elements, but more me, the contrast was more interesting than a straight up steampunk book.
