Paul | 13 comments I'm curious what the pace of books is suppose to be. ie. is it one book a month or one every two months?

I raise this question because Veronica on the iPad Today podcast commented that she no longer has the time to read/listen anything else (ie. This American Life) besides the Sword and Laser book. Maybe that means we should slow down the pace of the books. It's not suppose to feel like a chore. Personally, I've had a hard time keeping up myself considering my busy life (blasted grass grows too fast!) and all the other podcasts I have to listen to (eg. TNT every day and Tekzilla, now twice a week!). And of course, others who are fast readers can read other books in the mean time.

aldenoneil | 1000 comments I skip books all the time. Makes me feel like I'm cutting class.

I'm marking all of this down in your permanent records.

Faiz | 80 comments gulp.

Last new book i read was game of thrones last year, preceded by wheel of time and Neuromancer... yet i've listened to every S&L.

What does that make me?

EDIT: I know! I'm the guy who has perfect attendance but never hands any work in.

Someday Veronica will finish Memoirs Found in the Bathtub.

I think that day might be the day after the heat death of our universe...

I haven't skipped anything outright, but I did give up on Eye of the World and Once and Future King (I cheated on both those quizzes...shhhh).

message 12: by Boots (new)

Boots (rubberboots) | 499 comments I haven't skipped any yet but I only joined last December. I have been having some trouble catching up on all the books I hadn't read yet, which was basically all of them.

message 13: by Anne (new)

Anne Schüßler (anneschuessler) | 847 comments Yeah. I wish I could say I have perfect attendance and did all my homework. I mean, I do and I did, but it's only been for two books, so I don't really think it counts.

However I usually read more than a book per month, so I'm perfectly happy with the current pace. I'm usually done with the S&L book one or two weeks before it's "officially" finished.

Kev (sporadicreviews) | 667 comments I'm a lurker. I enjoy listening to the podcast and the book discussions mostly for book recommendations (and the lively banter between Tom and Veronica). I haven't once read along with the current book.

Nicely done.

Seems a bit small for all those records. Must be bigger on the inside than on the outside.

Joe Deisler | 51 comments I haven't read along since Anathem -- I know, tat was like two years ago. I like to read and post on the boards and get recommendations. Recently there hasn't been anything that has interested me, though I have read some of the ones I have missed.

Micah (onemorebaker) | 1071 comments I am a skipper too. Not in the Gilligans Island sense but in the "I have a 40+ hr/week job and am in junior college too" sense. Just to busy sometimes. I did read Blindsight but skipped the HTK book since I wanted to read The Name of the Wind. Which I am only 1/4 of the way through as of now.

message 18: by Patrick (last edited Jun 04, 2011 11:13AM) (new)

Patrick | 93 comments I like the discussion and recommendations in the forums as well as the podcast but I often don't read the main pick. The discussion eventually got me to read Blindsight but they were already on the HTK by then. I've got a pile of books on the to read list already.

message 19: by Joana (new)

Joana Augusto | 25 comments I've only started following S&L a couple of months ago, so I've only read a couple of the book picks. I've started with Blindsight. I'm not reading this book pick because I read it last year and finished the trilogy in the beginning of the year.

I do like the pace of the reading. It gives me enough time to get the pick from the library, read it and still read a couple more things while the discussion keeps going. But I tend to read around a book a week.

I don't know if I can keep up during the summer, though. I'm working 10 hour days for July and August, with no days off, in the sticks, and no bookstores nearby. If the picks aren't on kindle I have no way of getting them.

Curt Taylor (meegeek) | 107 comments I will read a selection if 1) I have not read before, or 2) It fits into my own personal queue. The second part is kind of hard as I follow the podcast and forums regularly. I actually discovered GRRM through S&L (thank you very much), which then took me off into Westeros for multiple books, stretching the queue a bit. Same with the Abercrombie series and now Rothfuss. I am almost finished with WMF and the new selection looks good, so will get back into pool again this month.
