ok..so the mortal instruments series was supposed to be trilogy..right? what happened?

ok i like that the series is continuing(idk how to spell that) but im lost...the 1st three books said it was trilogy....am i right??

Yes it was supposed to be a trilogy but Cassandra Clare had an idea to make a graphic novel for Simon when this didn't work she came up with an idea for 3 more books about everyone not just Simon with a different enemy so it's sort of like the sequel trilogy to the mortal instruments trilogy.
it kinda is confusing to me... but as i read more in CoFA it starts to make more sense so this could get better!
