Literary Fiction by People of Color discussion

It has been brought to my attention that the process for choosing our discussion book of the month may not be clear to everyone. On the upper right side of the home page, there is a list that includes the word "Polls". Every month, Bill (or, on occasion, I) will post a poll with 5 possible choices for a discussion book. This poll is posted on or around the 23rd of each month. Just click on the book you would like us to discuss. The voting lasts from the time that the poll is posted until the 7th of the following month. This gives group members about 3 weeks from the time the book is chosen until the time that the discussion starts. For example, a new poll will be posted on approximately June 23rd. That poll will be for the discussion book for August. You will have until July 7 to vote. On that date, you should receive a message telling you which book was selected, and the discussion of that book will begin on August 1.

I hope that this is clear. The more group members involved in the selection, the better! If you have any questions, please feel free to post them here in the new "Group Business" folder.

Hmmm...I'm not really a fan of the top three books idea. I have a hard enough time listing all the worthy books now when we pick 3 out of fifteen choices over a 3 month span. Unless you list 15 books every 3 months. Seems a bit unyieldy to me. Chelsea I suppose that you know of all the discounted used book sites on the internet? I've found disscussion books for as low as .99 cents.
Few members have completely finished a title by the start of the discussion. You really have as many as 7 weeks to read from the time a book is selected and the discussion moves on to the next title.

William or Mina. Would it be possible to set up a thread for a selection that is not the current chosen poll sleection. For example I am not finding oil and water intresting but would read Conquistsdora. It might be fun to have a thread where we could read and recommend after the book has been read too.

Rebecca, if you want to start a discussion thread about a book that isn't selected, please go right ahead. I think that there are enough members of the group that you could find people willing to read an additional or an alternative book. Just propose a book (preferably after the poll is over) and see if anyone wants to join in!
