i'd say either my Issues in Contemporary Lit class or my Marketing class.

message 3: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) my math 110 class or my creative writing class...only because I thought my instructors were kind of hot. :)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
ooh what could be a better combo..a creative writing class and a HOT professor. :)

message 5: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencerafreeman) My favorite class was a fiction writing class. I had two, actually. My first was with a hippie instructor who was so cool and the other was my final semester with an instructor who has a book of poems published...

message 6: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Right now, my favorite class is American Deaf Culture (I'm a Deaf Studies major). There are two teachers, and they're these two adorable old Deaf guys who are always joking around with each other. They also have some very interesting stories to tell about the Deaf experience.

Silvia (silverware) | 436 comments Deaf studies major!!! That sounds so interesting! My most interesting is child psychopathology. It's all about mental disorders children have and how they express them diferrently than adults.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
wow you guys have much more interesting classes than i do!

message 9: by Annette (new)

Annette (annette_marie_reads) | 39 comments Good Question! I think my favorite class was Diversity in Marital and Family Relationships...it covered so many different topics that just got grazed over in my other psych classes. I also really liked my World Religions class because of the books my professor had us read.

message 10: by Katerina (new)

Katerina | 252 comments wow that sounds like such an interesting class.

message 11: by Kara (new)

Kara (krwriter) | 8 comments My favorite class was Gothicism in Film and Literature...we read all the classic gothic lit like Dracula, Frankenstein, etc. along with some newer ones, and we watched movies like Psycho and the Devil's Backbone...then we had to analyze the gothic elements and write essays and such. It was a VERY interesting class.

message 12: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 143 comments that class sounds so interesting Kara!

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

criminal investigation bc the subject came to life, we had the teacher pose as a murder victim, and she turned the classroom into a crime scene, and we had to collect evidence and everything it was great

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Gene..i think that sounds amazing. does it annoy you when people think criminal investigations are like CSI??

message 15: by Bree (new)

Bree (breezybaby) | 144 comments I'd have to say any lit class i've ever taken.

message 16: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
funny how most of us picked their favorite class to be a literature class! :)

message 17: by Allison (new)

Allison oh wow- some of you have taken amazing classes.
it may be the geek in me, but i'd want to take some of them just for fun!

my favorite class would either be children's literature of the foundations of reading class i'm in now.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
i'm with you..alot of these classes sound super interesting to me that i would love to sit in them..minus doing all the work..or just picking and choosing what i would want to do. haha.

message 19: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Haha I've totally taken a few college classes for fun, just because they looked interesting. It does suck to have to do all the work though. You're like "Hey, wait, I'm here for fun! Do I really have to be graded?"

message 20: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I loved most of the psych classes that I took, and criminology.. that was super interesting. I think my favorite class was this one called Bring the Noise: Teen Angst & Anthems. It was actually 2 classes combined- psych and literature. We studied the teenage culture and mostly watched movies, listened to music and read some good books. It was fun.. but it also was tough because there was soooo much work outside of class that we had to do.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
that sounds sooo interesting!

message 22: by Mykee (new)

Mykee Tan (chineseveganboy) | 28 comments Literature! It's the only subject I get high grades on without having to study so much. XD

message 23: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 71 comments Does my independent study count as a class? :P

Hmm, my favourite class would probably be HIS250: "History of Russia". It was the first Russian history course I had ever taken and only took it because I needed to fill a spot on my schedule. Fell in love with Russian history and since then I've taken courses in almost all periods of Russian history and related :D

message 24: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) my favorite class was an upper division sociology class about the social construction of deviance. I loved it and read (and kept) the entire textbook completely enthralled. It has also changed the way I think about everything even several years later.

message 25: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Writing Children's Literature! I loved that class. I also really liked Writing as a Naturalist, and my Jane Austen course.

message 26: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 18, 2009 05:22AM) (new)

Great topic....Anna, we learned about deviance in uni last year, I agree completely, its enthralling!

My favourite...we learned about the politics and sociology of non-EU countries last year, like we learned about the politics in Chile, Brazil, etc. It was at once the best and worst class ever. Like, learning about Chile's September 11th 1973..and Pinochet (what a fu*ker) .and about U.S. foreign policy...I came out of that class almost in tears loads of times, but I still think that everybody should learn it, learn about the horrific things that people have to deal with every day all because of a bunch of idiots who act purely out of their own self interest.

I just saw your reply Roisu..that sounds like an interesting class to have taken..a real eye opener! I always loved classes like that!

message 28: by Molly (new)

Molly (slinkyxo) | 153 comments My favorite class was an International Relations class. I think the teacher made it amazing..but I really was interested and learned so much!

message 29: by Lydia (new)

Lydia (daisysinherhair) my favorite was human sexuality and poetry writing!!!
so informative and super fun
who doesnt like a class where you get to play sexual jepardy

message 30: by Alisha (new)

Alisha Hanson Glatzel (alicat39) I'm taking Human Sexuality and I have to say - It's my ALL TIME favorite class. It's really interesting to be able to explore a subject openly that so many people are uncomfortable with.

message 31: by Drew (new)

Drew Wilson (drewhamilton) I'm really enjoying my American History until 1877. It's a nice break from the upper division design work.

message 32: by jessi (new)

jessi (infinitevantage) | 157 comments Human Sexuality was one of my favorite classes, too. I also took Psychology of Sexual Orientation, which was great.

Other favorites include Drugs and Behavior (from the Addictions college), The Bible and Literature, Terrorism, and Political Ideologies.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Jessi, what you study at college sounds facinating!

message 34: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (ljones08) My favourite class so far was probably one I took on Family Diversity, which was basically a class that we learned about different familial structures and dynamics, as well as cultural differences in families..

I also really liked my maternal/pediatric nursing class as pediatric nursing is my passion (and what I am currently practicing)

message 35: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 130 comments This semester: Philosophy of Mind and Perception.

message 36: by Sara (new)

Sara When I was in university my favorite was my major which was Popular Culture. I loved it. It w as a first year class so it covered everything from G.I. Joe and Barbie to graffiti. I learned soo much and I loved the prof. He was great, he actually brought in one of the original G.I. Joe's.(I know it sounds weird and geeky but it's amazing to have one because of what they were made out of a lot of them did not survive especially in mint condition).

I dropped out because it was going to cost too much to finish the four years so now I am looking into being an Medical Office Administrator. Cost way less to take and it's only 11 months. I might eventually go back to University if I have the money to :)

jessi (infinitevantage) | 157 comments Roisu wrote: "Jessi, what you study at college sounds facinating!"

I take that as a compliment, so thank you! :)

Although some of those classes were electives that will not help me in my major/career path, I have always felt that college was a time to explore and learn as much as possible, and I have no regrets about taking more courses than I needed, even though it will take me a total of five years to graduate now. I often learn a lot more when I am not focused on meeting requirements for my major. I try to live by the quote by Mark Twain: "Never let your schooling interfere with your education."

I would seriously suggest you take those courses if something similar is offered at your school. If you can't take the classes for whatever reason and you are interested in one of those subjects, I know a lot of good books on those topics that I could tell you about.

Alisha Hanson Glatzel (alicat39) Sara wrote: "When I was in university my favorite was my major which was Popular Culture. I loved it. It w as a first year class so it covered everything from G.I. Joe and Barbie to graffiti. I learned soo much..."

I know you didn't ask for my opinion but if you did...I would tell to go back to college. I quit school and was managing a neuro-surgical office for 6 years. I thought I would be happy and this would be enough. Soon, I realized that without a degree, I wasn't going to make the money I wanted to make. I had hit a ceiling and wanted more @ 29. Now I'm 31, I just quit my job and I am once again a full time student with my eye set on a business degree. It's hard the older you are, I have more commitments than I did when I was 19. Don't cheap out on your future! Sacrifice today for a better tomorrow.

I wish I could go back and it differently. Think it through. I wish you all the best.

message 39: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 27, 2009 04:34AM) (new)

Hey Jessi, it was meant as a compliment! Hahaha, that quote by Mark Twain is brilliant, so true! I wish I could do the Psychology of Sexual Orientation. I don't think such a course is offered at the uni I attend. Book recommendations would be great, thanks!

How did you find Political Ideologies? I did that in first year and I loved it.

My favourite class in college this year is Social Change. Our prof. is great, she's really left-wing, and we're learning about alternative to capitalist perspectives on the environment, health, education, etc. It's brilliant!

message 40: by jessi (new)

jessi (infinitevantage) | 157 comments Yeah, when I took Psych of Sexual Orientation, it was the first time they were offering the course. The assigned reading in that class was a course pack that the professor compiled that included various studies and articles from psychology journals, mostly. I actually kept it, though, because I found it interesting, so I could send it to you in the mail if you promise to give it back.

In addition to the course pack, I have read a few books on LGBT issues that I would recommend:

Anything but Straight Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth

Unspeakable Love Gay and Lesbian Life in the Middle East

The Church and the Homosexual

I loved political ideologies. It was just really interesting to read manifestos from fascists, socialists, libertarians, etc. I kept my books for that class because they came out with a new addition so I couldn't sell them back, and also because they have excerpts from the writings of Osama bin Laden, Sayyid Qutb, Adolf Hitler, Marx, and all kinds of people, which I think is neat.

I don't think we have a class like that here, which is too bad, but that sounds really fascinating! Are you a political science major, too?

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

I major (it's so weird using that word, we don't say use it over here) in Psychology, Sociology and Politics.

Your political ideologies course sounded facinating! It's really cool learning about all the different ideologies! Did you find yourself identifying with any particular one?

Social Change is great. It's completely anti-capitalist, although subtly so.

Thanks for the book recommendations, I'll have to read them! I'd take you up on the mailing offer, but it would cost you a load to mail stuff to Ireland so I won't! Thanks though. :-)

message 42: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ash88) So far my favorite class was an art (my minor) class, Printmaking. SOO soo fun and interesting. We did everything from carving designs into wood and linoleum and printing them in different ways & different colors, to etching drawings & designs into metal plates with acid (it was great.)

My favorite work so far I did in that class. I loved it! :)

message 43: by jessi (new)

jessi (infinitevantage) | 157 comments What do you say instead of major?

I didn't fall into one category, really. I agreed with the environmentalist and animal rights ideologies, although those are very specific issues, obviously, so they don't encompass my political ideals as a whole.

And you are welcome. Let me know what you think if you ever get around to reading any of those books.

Bárbara (leviathan_) Jessi wrote: "Although some of those classes were electives that will not help me in my major/career path, I have always felt that college was a time to explore and learn as much as possible"

YES! I'm a political science and international relations major, and my favourite class atm is Introduction to Art History, which I am doing as a random free choice - one of my classmates always criticizes me for not taking classes that could be useful, but I don't care. At least I like it.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Jessi, we just say study. I can't wait to get my hands on those books!

message 46: by Amy (new)

Amy (signgirlamy) My favorite class this semester is probably my International Trade class. Although I have a test in there in 15 min so I like it a little less right now!

Favorite class ever... probably Memory and Cognition that I took last spring. It was a ridiculously hard class and I left knowing less about memory than I thought I did before I took the class. However, our class discussions were GREAT, and I apply so many of the things we learned to all of my other classes.

My senior seminar in psych is pretty cool this semester as well. It's about psychology in education and it's so interesting to see how teachers in secondary school use virtually ZERO techniques that lead to actual learning. It's a "blow your mind" kind of class, and I think I'm going to leave it with a more pessimistic view of schools than I did before.

message 47: by Kailey (new)

Kailey (lukutuokka) Finnish Language class. My teacher is awesome and we have a Finnish Fullbright scholar from Finland as our TA!

message 48: by David (last edited Oct 02, 2009 01:05PM) (new)

David (canadiandave) Loved all my Ballroom Dance and Folkdance classes (they kept me sane and had a lot of cute girls), loved all my chemistry courses (I'm a dork), really enjoyed my Accounting class (why did I wait until my final semester to take that?)....and thought Business Portuguese was a blast! Senior Seminar in Latin American Studies was really cool too (and I took it same semester as Intro to Latin American Studies). And Hockey!

That's a lot.

message 49: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
David, you are the first person to say they enjoyed Accounting. :)

message 50: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) Hmm hard to say really. First semester would go to Biological Diversity, second semester would be American Government, and this semester is Introduction to Anthropology.
I've had some really enjoyable classes, in fact the only ones I've hates have been College Algebra, Pre-calculus, and Chemistry.
