Thanks Janice! I'm going to read this one. It's by a local author, friend of a friend. I've had it in my TBR pile for a while. I always need an excuse to read books from that pile so thanks!

Janice (jamasc) | 59924 comments Hi Kate!

That's great that you are able to pull a book from your pile. It's always a bonus when you can make a book you already have fit a challenge.

I've got only one book on either list that I could read for this challenge. The Secret Garden. There are a bunch that are on my wishlist.

Janice (jamasc) | 59924 comments Ahhh, you have that problem too! :)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I pulled Black Thorn, White Rose off Mt. TBR. I'm a little confused by "All qualifications (page count, cover specifics) will be based on the most popular version on Goodreads." Do you mean to say that we're supposed to read the most popular edition? Or rather that whatever edition we read, our points will be based on the edition that comes up first on a GR title search? (I hope you say "the latter." :)

Janice (jamasc) | 59924 comments Cheryl, your hopes have been fulfilled. You may read whatever version of the book you have whether it be a book, ebook, or audiobook. The points, however, will be based on the GR's most popular edition.

Janice (jamasc) | 59924 comments Oh, and "Mt. TBR"... is that Mount TBR? As in Mount Everest? LOL!

The Name of the Rose is fantastic, especially if your a librarian!

Alison Forde | 269 comments I'm doing Rose in Bloom as its easily available for free as an ebook, via Gutenberg or Many Books,

Janice (jamasc) | 59924 comments I'll start the reporting thread tonight when I get home from work in case there are speed readers in our group who will finish their book before the day is finished. :) Do we have any of those in our group?

message 12: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Yup, my pile of owned & unread books is almost as intimidating as Mount Everest. :) Thanks for this nudge to pull one down!

I am often a speed reader and eager to start a challenge but not this month because I fell behind trying to read some other difficult books for other May and June reads in other groups.

I love reading what you-all are reading - thanks for making clickable links when you give the title! :)

Newbie question....do I have to read a book from the two list? Or can I pick my own book and then score it based on the qualifiers listed? Thank you! (sorry if a silly question!!)

No, it's not a silly question. The challenge is to read one book from one of the two lists.

The whole idea though is to get people reading. So if you can't find a book that you would like to read from the list, tell me which book you would like to read and if it fits in the theme of the challenge (roses, ice cream), I'll approve it but with a one point deduction. Fair enough?

Sounds great! I'm off to pick a book!
