Creative writing isn't it! Even to the fable country etc... We have two box sets of the series from Amazon and are looking forward to seeing them.

Yes, haven't opened them and got into them yet but ordered from Amazon with English subs. Got a few Scandi films and the last season of The Legacy. They are called The Van Veeteren mysteries or series, so if you search with VV you should get a hit.

Kenneth, would you say this was science fiction or a mix of genres? I wanted to read it and I'm not crazy for SF.

It was definitely a science fiction and at the same time a mix of genres due to the way it was written. This was a mix of the super natural and a criminal element and I enjoyed reading it, I'll note that I do not like the science fiction part on a steady diet but this was a nice change for once.

message 2368: by Mary (new)

Mary (1meow1) | 118 comments I guess that's what appealed to me about this book...the mixture of folklore and crime. I see this element woven throughout quite a few scandi crime novels...vague references to trolls, etc. I don't know that I would say it's sci fi. I'm not into sci fi at all so I don't think I would have read it. I just enjoyed it as something just a little off the beaten track!

message 2369: by Mary (new)

Mary (1meow1) | 118 comments Just finished "Woman of the Dead" by Bernhard Aichner. He lives in Innsbruck, Austria. This is his first book translated into English. It is definitely not for the faint of heart. That said...it was a great book. On the order of Pierre Lemaitre's book, Alex. Gritty but you just have to finish it!

Eyehavenofilter | 78 comments I'm so far out of the loop but I just discovered Arnaldur Indridason's prequel... Reykjavik Nights. I'm starting it now. So far...so good...but it wish I could read it in the original language. Something tells me the translation is a bit simplified...can anyone clarify this for me?

I'm reading The Magician of Lublin by Isaac Bashevis Singer on the off chance it could be interesting, so far it is good. But it isn't a mystery, it's about a Jewish magician who has a woman in each town that he stops in although he's married. So far so good, I'm over half way through the book. It was in The Girl in the Spider's Web by David Lagercrantz.

Catherine | 6 comments This book and sequel are not Scandinavian, not by Scandinavian authors...however they take place, in part, in Russia.

Red Sparrow and Palace of Treason are good crime/spy thrillers... I found bith by accident..Red Sparrow caught my eye....and I had no idea it would become a series....Palace of Treason caught me by surprise as well!

I've so far read 75 books this year but I can't read only Scandinavian and Nordic Crime. I have read most of the books in the read-along section but if you have read a book that I have not put in the library then let me know so I can do it. There are many authors now that are not showing up.

Finished The Healer by Antti Tuomainen. It's about Finland in the near future (science fiction) where the sea is rising flooding areas and Tapani's wife goes missing. As he looks for his wife, he also looks for a killer who was involved with his wife prior to their marriage. I really like it, although science-fiction is not one of my favorite readings. It is what is happening now do to climate change, kind of eerie. He has an ending that is to die for. Book 78.

Helen | 140 comments Just finished "I'm traveling Alone" This story is set in Norway. Young girls are missing and then found dead. Dressed in dols clothes.I loved the flawed characters Holger and Mia. The rest of the investigative team are also interesting. Kim, Gabriel and Anete. Where it lost points for me was it became to convoluted and far-fetched at the end. There were lots of characters and I kept on glancing back to releaise their significence. I kept on thinking C'mon time to end now, wind up but it went on. I will read more of this writer's books as he has potential and I want to know more about Holger, Mia, Gabriel, Kim and Ludavoc.

Nora | 2 comments Hi I just finished listening jussi Adler-Olsen. All the books on overdrive library. I loved all of them. It was great!☺️ I hope they get more. I am now listening to all of Louise Penny in order. Great listening. I would write them down but don't have a listing. Have a great day.

Hi Sharon. Can I ask if you liked the first book in the series? I keep seeing this one & it sounds interesting but I didn't enjoy the first one at all so I'm a bit hesitant to pick this up. Thanks.

Just finished The Other Son by Alexander Söderberg and was wondering how to keep people straight. It was filled with action and murders and kidnaping. Always finding a new person to keep track of. Not hard to keep track of the main characters. It's a good read if you want to stay up like I did.

We won't get Into Oblivion: An Inspector Erlendur Novel until February 2016. You're lucky you can get it now. Published August 4, 2015. My mistake I was looking at the Kindle setting. Still wonder why it's "Oblivion" and not "Into Oblivion".
