I read no 3 for a group read and enjoyed it. Good on environment. Very gentle. Group was quite split. I'm going to go back to no 1.

I've read all the Bruno books including the short stories and can't seem to get enough of him. I really like Martin Walker as an author and St. Denis as the town Bruno polices. What I really like is his take on horses, chickens, duck's , etc... I was a farm boy way back.

Gary Van Cott | 132 comments I think the Bruno books are great and a bit different from what I usually read. The only problem I have is that in recent books Bruno is a bit stuck in trying to establish the kind of permanent relationship he wants with a woman.

Thoroughly agree. Love the Bruno series. But also found a couple of his stand alone books fascinating too. Very good writer. Makes me want to go to the Perigord again......

Well while were on authors I should mention that Michael Ridpath has written a novella of about 70 pages and he's offering it free to the people who would like it. I just finished it and it's on his financial side not Iceland which I read right away. I would like you to read it and give me your opinion on it. Look under his blog.

I just finished Blue Blue Eyes: Blue Blue Eyes by Helena Anderson who's Swedish and in this case wrote about Swedish people on Cyprus including the detective. It was a well thought out book (it was her first) and probably will change to Spain in the next go-around. She has good vibes as an author and I'll read her book where ever she writes about next.

The Living and the Dead in Winsford by Håkan Nesser

Hi Ellen. English version came out in 2015 & it's a great read in that series.

message 2664: by Ellen (new)

Ellen I've ordered the last 3 books from my library. couldn't believe they didn't have them in.

message 2666: by Gwyneth (new)

Gwyneth (gwynethabaker) | 20 comments The Living and the Dead is a stand alone. Its not part of a series like most of his books. But I've enjoyed everything he's written, series and stand alones. Just wish The Living and the Dead of Windsford was a series. Hatated finishing it!

Hakan will have to wait a while. My friends convinced me that I need to read about Sebastian Bergman. Det fördolda (Sebastian Bergman, #1) by Michael Hjorth from Rosenfeldt, Hans. I'm waiting for a new season of the bridge so it will be good enough.

Hi Sue. I read Some Kind of Peace, #1 in the Siri Bergman series a while ago. Definitely a scandinavian novel, just has that dark, slower moving style. It's not so much suspense (although that's part of it) as a psychological study of the people involved so I think those used to fast paced shoot-em-up thrillers might find it too slow & introspective.

I'm reading this now myself and slowly as house full last four weeks and little reading time. Really enjoying the read however and surprised I had not heard of her previously but see there are many books by her. Certainly like the twists so far so adding her to my list of writers.

I've read Some Kind of Peace and also More Bitter Than Death. These two books were written with the help of her sister, Äsa Troff but The Ice Beneath Her was translated by Elizabeth Clark Wessel while the other two books were translated by Paul Norlén and no mention of Äsa Troff in The Ice Beneath Her

Was delighted to get back to reading Liza Marklund after a very long time of just enjoying watching the excellent films/tv series. The Last Word was a delightful read. Highly recommend it.

Now back to Anne Holt and her latest in her series, Beyond The Truth. So far excellent.....must I have to rush as I expect Ian Rankin's new book to download later this week !

Still totally stalled to my horror with Ian McEwan, NUTSHELL.....why, I don't know as i like the idea of a format with the fetus telling the story of impeding murder and mayhem on the one hand but on the other, it is rather unsettling....

For fans of Anne Holt, this may be of interest.

Well I read The Lazy Days of Temptation by Sarah King as a first book I thought she tackled a very messy problem that is more rampant in the world than you would think. Tutti is a journalist that falls into everything that is happening and meets the mess that is made by her honesty. It is a fun book to read.

Ellen The G File by Hakan Nesser.

Chief Inspector Van Veeteren is reality anything else in your life goes on hold!

THE Chief Inspector has but one file that has never been closed...never been solved. That of Jaan G. Hennan. Did it start 15 years ago when private eye Maarten Verlangen was paid a visit by Barbara Hennan. Fru Hennan wanted Verlangen to tail her husband and report back to her with any results.

It actually started with the body of Jaan G. Hennan's former wife's body being found after an exhausting search. That happened in the States with "G" being found not guilty due to lack of evidence. Now it appears that a 2nd wife has met with a similar "accident". Can "G" get away with murder another time in another country? NOT if ret. chief Inspector Van Veeteren has anything to say about it.
Be prepared to put anything else going on in your on hold. Van Veeteren is reality until the very end. Absolutely on a level so far above other authors Nesser's brilliance can't be measured.

This is the fourth book in the series, this is one you should read in order. Otherwise you'll be wondering. The The Human Flies is first, Satellite People is second, The Catalyst Killing is third and the fourth book is Chameleon People. I've read them all and you'll really be disappointed if you don't read them in order.

At times I couldn't find a reason for his sleuthing but when the light dawns and the questions are answered...so much deeper than most other mysteries. Well worth the time.
