English Translations of Scandinavian/Nordic Mysteries & Thrillers discussion
What are you reading?

Just starting The Tunnel by Carl Johan Vallgren, book #2 in a series.
Do you like it?"
Hi Ida. Yes, I did but I am woefully behind on reviews so I hope to get that one..."

Sorry people but this is all you will be getting from James Thompson who died on 2 August 2014. He was working on a new book at the time.

I just finished the ARC of The Scarred Woman by Jussi Adler-Olsen and Rose was the main character although there were many other stories which were told. I think if you were turned off by other Jussi's books you will really like this book. I did and I highly recommend it.

Anxiously waiting for my copy! It's about time we learn more about Rose 🌹.

Thank you Ken. I stopped the books because of Rose and etc...and prefer the very excellent films but this inspires me to give it another try.

I hear you, Sharon. I'm not doing too bad with my reading schedule but as woefully behind on reviews.
Have to say, I was a bit disappointed with this one after really enjoying the first book. More space is devoted to the main characters & their various personal issues than the actual crime & investigation.

OK I've read all of Karin Forrum"s books which total 14 but I note that there is one book only available from third party vendors it was published in 2013 and is called Calling Out For You my question is this going under another name in the US or is it another book we didn't get here yet?

That's fantastic Sharon, so it's The Indian Bride and I've read it. I'll have to look at it again because I had 14. Will let you know. Didn't see the two below or above. All books read.

RANT: I so miss the days before Amazon bought out GRs. Now I mark a book as read and get two emails within minutes analyzing everything and giving unwanted advice on what next etc etc. VERY intrusive and unwanted. Done!

I don't get those emails, and nothing's changed for me. Go to your account settings, look at the list of ten things under email and uncheck them all. Poof. Restore your life to pre-purchase normalcy.

How do I stop Facebook displaying the books i have just finished reading?

Don't know but I've been very careful to never sign in nor connect to FB as IMHO they have nothing to do with each other and should not have. Look in your settings as above or hope someone gives the help on here.

I don't sign in with Facebook, so I'm not positive; however, if you go to your profile, scroll right on the toolbar to the fifth pulldown menu, Apps. The first app displayed on mine is Facebook, with the option to "Let your Facebook friends know what you’re reading!" I haven't connected Facebook (or any other social account) to my GR account. If you have, though, you should have an "unlink Facebook account" option under the Facebook logo and, if you click on it, voila, no more announcements on FB about your reading activity.
To each his own, but it would creep the heck out of me and be way TMI if all of my books were shared at my Facebook account. Wow.
Thanks for sharing your info. Agree. Ever since the login in or share with FB appeared I thought it intrusive and certainly not a choice I wanted. Hope this works.

For those new this is a valuable source. Also great to follow on Facebook. Excellent listings and links.

Re Nesbo and his Harry Hole series, it is really worthwhile to read the series in order. There is a lot of development along the route....imo.

Looking forward to the film version , but would have preferred it to have been in Sweden , as in the Stieg Larson trilogy, which adhered more to the books and were much darker.

I wasn't disappointed , would recommend, give him a try Gwyneth

Fall 2017 Nordic Noir Reading List
July 25, 2017
There’s nothing better than a good Scandinavian crime novel. The genre’s grit, moody atmosphere, sharp social commentary, and complex characters never fail to deliver my favorite crime fiction reads—and this fall is going to be a huge one for new Scandinavian crime releases! From new series installments to compelling standalones to a major movie adaptation, there’s a little something for everyone releasing this fall.
Organized by month, CBTB’s Fall 2017 Nordic Noir Reading List is your guide to all the upcoming releases that will be on my TBR—and that should be on your list too. ....

The Dying Detective, Leif G.W. PERSSON .....
Take note there are some rather weird listings as people are using the wrong spelling on GRs so my suggestion is to always click on ALL EDITIONS .....

I try to give you guys the latest in Books showing what is out there. However Goodreads doesn't have any idea what is out there and I'm kind if angry that they can't get what Amazon has. An example is The Anthill Murders by Hans Olav Lahlum, it's been for pre-order for some time and has a cover, yet Goodreads doesn't have it. Sorry for those folks looking for it you don't know the cover.

Thanks Ken. Bit frustrated myself with some things like that...I have read all the Max Camara books and yet GRs says this book is number 6, while it is the 7th I have read and have on my listing!!!

Well, I had to read Origin by Dan Brown, I went to his lecture and got a first edition signed copy, with 2,200 other people. It follows Dan's previous books almost like a pattern. What he expands upon were the descriptions when he describes everything places, thing, people, you name it. You get a sense of Spain in everything that he describes. It was easy to figure out how each person was killed, I saw it coming. I won't tell you so you can read it yourself. It was a good read, but not Scandinavian.
