Glad you are a fan ...I read the first two and he made so many fundamental errors about Europe that I just could not bother with more. Sure successful though and doing a tour here soon.

Just finished Tonight You’re Dead by Viveca Sten and I was really interested in the book because she changed who her main character was. Norma was their but it really revolved around Thomas. If you like the Archipelago of Stockholm you'll like this.

(for some reason my tolino e-reader indicates the book is over 900 pages, while all sources I've found so far mention about 300. ah well, i'll just keep reading :) )

I kniw he made errors...but tou akso have to remember he has "poetic licence" as well....he does state that there are errors (at least I think he does). It is a good series. I still have to read 4 & 5. Not everyone likes everything. It is the same with other authors/series/books...such as Outlander..by Diana Gabaldon...I absolutely love this series...and I mean LOVE!! But I know people who have told me they just couldn't get into the story.

Ah well..to each his own. :).

He is no Nordic author..that is for certain...but he is still very good. :)

Wow!!! Lucky you! I was lucky enough to meet Mark Pryor in the flesh in Paris...he writes the Hugo Marston series.. and I got a picture with him and his latest book signed (and free...he was giving away a few pre-publish)..

It was awesome to meet him!! And I love his books. They are not nordic, but they are very good!!

I am on a journey reading through a series, which usually I prefer as I like series of books! It has been hard to find the order of these but the best I have managed to ascertain is following. A comment I can make being on the penultiment book available in English, is that the first couple were hard going, very overly descriptive as the writer found his style. However, the character detail from the earlier books, serves the reader well as the series builds. The last two books have been very good reading and I have hopes for the final two! Here is my best try at a list:
Kjell Ola Dahl, translated by Don Bartlett. Norway.
Gunnarstranda & Frølich the Oslo Detectives,

**6 of the 8 novels have been published in English, these translations have been published in the reverse order to which they were written.

Lethal Investments #1. 1993/2012
The Last Fix. #2. 2000/2010
The Man in the Window #3. 2001/2009
Lugenmeer 2003 #4 ??? No English found.
The Fourth Man. # 5. 2005/2009
Wraakengel 2007 #6 ??? No English found.
Faithless, # 7 Oslo. March 2010/2017. iBook.
The Ice Swimmer, # 8. Oslo Detectives. Feb 28, 2018. iBook.
Il Corpodi Ghiaccio #8. 2011 ???? From what I can translate, I suspect this is The Ice Swimmer......Nr. 8.

Just finished Fredrik Backman's Us Against You Us Against You by Fredrik Backman and have to say a few words. It's about hockey, and much more that does and doesn't relate to it. I grew up in a hockey town Duluth, Minnesota so I know about it. We had it in high school, in a rink that was open to the outside. But our college also had it. So this year they won the NCAA National College Championship. You don't see this on any of the local channels on TV or in any of the papers. It's a rowdy group of people. Just saying......Go Bulldogs!!!

I had to play in the pep band cuz I couldn't find skates 7 1/2 5 E's. A lot of fun, took my girlfriend to a movie, we had the Russian Hockey team behind us. UMD played them but lost in overtime. Over 50 years ago. No one beat the Russians at that time. The movie was a James Bond film where the East Germans were escaping through the wall. Talk about weird.

I read a copy of The Night Ferry by Lotte Hammer and I was blown away by it. Basically, it brings the Balkan war back to Denmark. A war veteran was sweet-talked into killing a woman and man on a tourist boat, but ended up killing Japanese students and instructors in addition to the victims by swimming off to shore. That's a simplistic view that doesn't really complete the book. You're put through a lot more killings and horrors of war. But it has a good ending which I hope you'll like and even cheer for. I gave it 4 stars.

Cannot understand the PR referring to this as a love story! Yes, the storyline uses the relationship of a journalist (Canadian) and a Translator (family formerly from the Former Yugoslavia now residing in Paris) as a motor. But the main elements of this very good book and highly under rated IMHO, are the excellent, insightful descriptions of life in Paris, London, Balkans and The Hague. Yes, she makes errors but it amazed me how much insight and detail she was able to write and as I read this book I needed to stop constantly as my own work memories just kept flooding in on me. A very very good read actually of how war affects many, not only the casualities and victims! The writer is a poet and minister and writes well, HOWEVER, her other book Girls Fall Down was simply NOT my cup of tea! Only lived and worked in Toronto for a little over two years in the 70s but goodness, this was a strange read!
