English Translations of Scandinavian/Nordic Mysteries & Thrillers discussion
What are you reading?
I just finished, "Between Summer's Longing and Winter's End", by Leif GW Persson. I was really let down in reading it because of the meaningless sex and people in the book. It would have been better if he had left them out. They didn't add to the plot.

Yes it is a mystery and one of the best I have ever read. I wish Hoeg had written more.
I found the movie to be interesting but not great.

I began LT at the beginning of this week, Sharon, but I've had to balance it with Henrietta Lacks which I must finish for Monday. I'm anxious to get back to it and really like the characters thus far.

That may be the first time I've seen a Scandinavian book available in the U.S. Amazon store and not the U.K., usually it's the other way around.

Just curious because often you say 'today I'm reading' which makes me think it's a one-day thing. I have very seldom pulled that off, no matter how much I wanted to. Can't sit still that long!

I finished,"Misterioso", by Arne Dahl. It was a good book with an ending I can live with. Who is the mysterious woman that ends up with
our guy? Look for the next book.

I think I'm going to have to break down and buy the Redeemer as well, I can't locate anywhere around here at a library.

I think you are among friends, Melinda. Many of us can't get enough of Harry!

YOu're not alone, Elizabeth. I'm reading Ian Rankin too :)

Anyone read Watchman?

Only one on the poll I have not read is "1222". Darn.
I would read Adler-Olsen's book again though

I love the covers on your own books Junyinng on your blog. "Still Moon" I believe. What type of books are they?
Great to hear more about James.

Carol, my book club read Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter several months ago and most of the group really like it. We had an editor in the group who was particularly taken with the writing/language. Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks Susan, will let you know what I think when I finish.

Happy reading!
Well I read, "The Girl with the Sturgeon Tattoo", by Lars Arffssen. He pokes fun at everything Scandinavian. Didn't leave anything untouched.

Best of luck, James!

A Swedish speciality - rotten fish! I'll let Wiki explain it:
"Surströmming (pronounced [sʉ̌ːʂtrœmːɪŋ], Swedish "soured (Baltic) herring") is a northern Swedish dish consisting of fermented Baltic herring. Surströmming is sold in cans, which often bulge during shipping and storage, due to the continued fermentation. When opened, the contents release a strong and sometimes overwhelming odor, which explains why the dish is often eaten outdoors. A Japanese study has shown that the smell of a newly opened can of surströmming is the most putrid smell of food in the world, beating similar fermented fish dishes such as the Korean Hongeohoe or Japanese Kusaya."
