Enjoy. I read them years ago. Surprised how much I enjoyed them. There are four I think in the Joel Gustafsson youth series...

I finished Devil's Fjord Devil's Fjord by David Hewson by David Hewson David Hewson and I found another Nordic book worthy to read. It won't be released until May so you'll have to wait for the book, but Hewson's got a lot to explain, so we have two people that have come to a village in the Faroe's to semi retire by having only to watch the people when there is a grind (whale hunt). Tristan and Elesbeth are sweet people who were given a hornet's nest of a village to live in. Almost from day one of the grind Tristan is involved in an accident by having his face cut open by a young boy. The boy runs off with his brother into the moors and mountains and later dies falling off a drop into the ocean from a cliff. Everything revolves around this in Hewson's story. He makes it so involved that you make assumptions that later to prove to be false. I like the way he does this with the people of the village making some people bad, others followers, and others keepers of the family. It's worth the wait to read it and I highly recommend it.

Lori | 47 comments I'm presently reading Evil Things by Katja Ivar. There isn't much written about this author. I don't think she's actually Finnish but liking the plot. However, the reader is reading with an American accent. I would much rather hear a Finn speaking English. I'm looking for more stories written by Finnish authors that are translated into English. I've become interested in Finland because my grandchildren are Finnish. It's lovely there. Interested in most genres, but mostly thriller/mystery.

I like the Anna Fekete series by Kati Hiekkapelto, set mostly in Finland.
The Hummingbird

Harri Nykänen and Antti Tuomainen are two popular authors who have been translated into English, but I haven’t gotten around to their work yet.

Edited: Kati Hiekkapelto actually is Finnish, not sure what I was thinking!

I am reading Watching You and as above, I’ve enjoyed the series on tv of his last books but never read this author. This book is very gritty stuff but as I anticipated, well written. Early days though as just getting going......

Had to read something not Scandinavian for a change, it was Dot Hutchison's book called The Vanishing Season. I rated it 5 stars because they have been through so much stuff. It's about an 8 year old girl (Blond, blue eyes) thats been kidnapped by a man who lost his daughter at 8 years to leukemia and he's replaced her with this child. The book goes through 21 years of kidnapping 8 year olds. It also goes through 3 other books of kidnapping and it ends on a happy note with a wedding and a baby girl. I must say that in her previous books she has one that the girls were put through the ringer and were captive until their 21st birthday. They have become kind of a family to me and I love to hear about them in each book I read of Dots.

Away from Scandinavian books for a change of pace after two very gritty Arne Dahl in a row! Reading the end of a series set in Barcelona....1939, 1950 onwards.....interesting the times of upheaval and war in Spain..... very good but long series and I suspect due to translation taking so long, a long wait for this final book.

I must tell you that I will be going to Radiation Therapy for 8 weeks to rid my body of Cancer that was 10 years ago. I don't know how I will feel so unless we can find someone to take over for a while. They say the outcome is good, but it's 5 days a week for all 8 weeks. I will try to keep up as long as possible.

My cancer was also ten years ago so I feel for you. Wishing you strength and success. Don’t worry. Your place will be here for you and you will be missed. Just concentrate on yourself and your own health. Good luck Ken.

Just another thought I will share, when I had my radiation weekdays for weeks, they advised me to pace myself and rest and I got into the habit of a lie down afternoons. It really was beneficial and indeed now years later when I have a quiet day, I find it still a good idea. Best of luck. Be positive.

I have enjoyed them enormously myself and find this writer has such a fabulous way of describing and expressing himself. I end up highlighting a lot of phrases or paragraphs! Because of the long time between books, I took awhile to get going in this final of the series but now I wish I could just stay home and READ ....... Also love Barcelona. I have enjoyed many of his other books too, very much.
