Hard to imagine how it would be to read The Snowman before the others that come before it!

I agree as it is such a character driven set of stories and indeed the stories are referenced back and forth too....shame to start an author and character near the end of the series that is winding down.

The Snowman was my first Nesbo book..like a lot of others that I have spoken to. I think it works fine as a stand alone ...it made me want to go back to the beginning and you can always re read these books in sequence later

Ian (pepecan) | 350 comments I agree with Rachel - Snowman works fine as a first bit of Nesbo.

I finished "The Exception," by Christian Jungersen. It was a really good read. No detectives. Just 4 women brow beating each other and you at the same time. It takes place in Denmark at a small nonprofit that disseminates information on genocide. And then they get messages that say they will be killed. No more to be said or I could give it away.

Hi Anna, I read my first AL with Sun Storm and loved it, started The Blood Spilt the next day and am enjoying it. Glad to have downloaded all her books on iBook ...plan to do them in a row. Quite a nice find, this author. Feel like I am in Lapland......enjoy.

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 236 comments Hi Fiona,

The Hidden Child comes after The Preacher by Lackburg because I believe Erica was pregnant with the baby then and she has a baby in The Hidden Child.

Some one help us out here. I know that some are not in English yet.

Ian (pepecan) | 350 comments 70% done with Karin Alvtegen's Shadow. Really enjoying. Not standard Scandi crime really as no police involved. More a mystery, but really well written/translated and the characters have good depth.

message 376: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 236 comments Absolutely love The Hidden Child. Lackburg's ability to weave situations and people together and in different time frames is outstanding.

I really liked the "Nemesis" by Jo Nesbo. He had me wondering who was the killer at the bank and then the killer at his old girl friends, of course they changed with the wind that what makes it interesting.

Susan (susanthomas) I'm also getting started on The Leopard, having finished all of my other obligatory reading for the month. I've been away from Nesbo for quite a while and I'm looking forward to settling in with him again while I wait for decisions in the polls, etc.

The Black Path (Rebecka Martinsson, #3)
by Åsa Larsson
read in February, 2012
My rating:

edit my review
shelf: read
Number three and absolutely fabulous...will start the fourth tomorrow when all of this has sunk in. I cannot recommend the books by this writer more....they are amazingly good. Many details of life in Lapland and Sweden but each book with the main recurring cast and continuing story lines...they HAVE TO BE READ IN ORDER....but the changes of detail and story lines are totally addictive and enjoyable. Nature, crime, personal relationships...world business and politics. Excellent....and a joy to have a female lead and some other strong females for a change. Loved the first three and look forward to fourth and hope for more!

message 385: by Carfig (new)

Carfig | 4 comments I am reading "1222" by Anne Holt. The local library is rather hit or miss with most of the Scandinavian authors, so I haven't read other Hanne Wilhelsen novels. It would be nice, but not necessary to enjoy this book. I still like Jo Nesbø the best of Norwegian writers!

message 386: by Susan (new)

Susan (susanthomas) I've begun The Leopard but I'm also reading Julie Otsuka's When the Emperor Was Divine after reading her other book, The Buddha in the Attic for my book club. Will soon dig into The Grapes of Wrath for my monthly Pulitzer read. Meanwhile, I'm waiting for poll results in the two two Nordic/Scandinavian groups I'm with.

Never before have I been so frustrated with too much choice! Just downloaded Phantom by Jo Nesbo but was well into Borkmann's Point by Hakan Nesser when Agent 6 by Tom Rob Smith came along .....overload. Problem of luxury. Imagine not having a good book!

Reading Every Day in Tuscany for light relaxation and my paper read!

I just took on a new project as managing editor of Helsinki Noir, part of the series by Akashic Books. www.akashicbooks.com The feedback I've read here--your thoughts on Finnish writers and their translated works--helped me develop a work plan for the book, figuring out ways to improve the text for the international market and make it more accessible to the world at large.
