What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Hello -
Anyone recall a novel about a Castrato (?) singer? It involved some kind of personal power struggle (what doesn't). I read it years ago and it but the name escapes me. Probably because it wasn't very good.

Could be Anne Rice's Cry to Heaven. It's the only castrati novel I know of.

Kingsley Amis also wrote a novel about a castrato.

The other book that comes to mind is Orson Scott Card's Songmaster, although the title character is not precisely a castrato. And it's an excellent book, so it doesn't meet your other criterion either. ;)
