message 51: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I get my diploma mailed to me in January after the winter graduation ceremony & I'll be an official graduate too! I already walked at the ceremony in May because I wanted to be outside since you can invite more people and it's just so much nicer than being in a stuffy gym.

when does everyone start back up? and what classes do you have?

message 60: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (JaymeLyn) i started up on tuesday.
taking:
writing for mass media
portfolio
racquetball
british women novelist
comparative religions
world history (from the 1500s)

message 61: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie I took racquetball last semester... but I dropped it after the first class b/c the professor was a total douche and made me cry. I didn't want the class to ruin my love of the sport.

I start on Monday. eeekk.
- American Lit II
- Cultural Anthropology
- Spirituality of Ministry
- School Art Methods
- Creative Writing
- and a Speech Path practicum at a nursing home

message 62: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (JaymeLyn) Lynn--I loved my Cultural Anthropology class!

As for racquetball, I've never played it before so I'm interested in learning how to play..I'm not so interested in the presentation I have to give on the history of the sport on Tuesday :(

message 63: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I loved Cultural Anthro too! I had the quirkiest teacher, but she was awesome.
I start up on the 20th. I'm home in Minnesota for about a week and a half right now, then I fly back to California on the 19th. I don't want to go back!
But the classes I have this semester are:
-ASL Conversation (ASL 5)
-Deaf History
-The Deaf Learner
-ASL/English Translation
Fun stuff.

message 64: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie People tell me I should have studied anthropology. I'm excited about taking it!

I miss sign language. They only offered it one semester, one night a week, but I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. Our book was for Signed Exact English though.. I signed up thinking it would be just ASL.. but our teacher knew ASL so that's mostly what he taught. I think I know an odd hybrid of ASL/SEE now. haha. I worked with Hard of Hearing kids last semester but I didn't feel confident enough in my signing since it had been awhile

message 65: by Janet (new)

Janet I start on Monday. I am not excited but am at the same time. I take my PLACE test tomorrow morning, which I am nervous for! EEK! The PLACE test is the Colorado state wide test that all education majors have to take in order to be able to student teach and get their teaching lisence. Cross your fingers it goes well!!

This semester I am taking:
-Advanced Assessment in Special Education
-Behavioral Dimensions of Students with Exceptionalities II
-Support Systems in Special Education
-Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students with Disabilities
-130 Hours of observation in secondary significant support needs

Good luck everyone on your first few days back!!

message 66: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie Janet, that "Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students with Disabilities" sounds really interesting! I wish they had that at my school.. it sounds like a good education class for speech majors to take. Good luck with your test! I'm positive you'll do fine!

message 67: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I start on Monday as well and I'm not looking forward to it. I'm taking:

Survey of American Lit I
History of French Lit II
Sexuality in American Society
Literary Criticism and Analysis
The Supreme Court (2 hour seminar)
First Amendment Freedoms (2 hour seminar)

My classes look pretty good though. It's just the other stuff and people I'm not looking forward to.

message 68: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Lynn: that's awesome! I wish more people would take ASL classes. It's an awesome language.

message 69: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) I tried to take ASL in highschool as my "foreign" language but I couldn't find any classes in town.

I start on Friday and I'm really rather nervous for some reason. I'm taking:

Comp II
World Lit II
Intro to Lit
Recent American History
and Broadcast Management

message 70: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Janet I'm sure you'll do fine!

message 71: by Annette (new)

Annette (annette_marie_reads) | 39 comments I'm taking ASL at a j.c. starting the first week in February. I have always wanted to learn sign language so I am really excited about it!

message 72: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Yay! =)

message 73: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie too bad we can't sign on here. haha.

message 74: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Haha that would be too much fun!

message 75: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments This is my schedule for this sememster
- History and Literature of Theatre
- Math 1010
- WSU Concert Choir
- Acting 1
- Foundations of Computer Science.
Only 15 credit hours this semester, I feel like I'm going to have so much more time to myself....

message 76: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments I'm pretty much taking freshmen classes in my junior year that I never gotten around to taking. Haha. Only 15 hours this semester, thank god!
Basic Public Speaking
Biology (lab & lecture)
Business Writing
American History 1 (already took 2)
Accounting 1 (this is the one I'm retaking cause I did so bad)
So my semester isn't bad. I'm kinda scared of Biology though. Some people said it was easy, but I'm still skeptic. Haha. We'll see how it goes.

message 77: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Lauren, I'm taking a few 1000 and 2000 level courses so don't feel alone.

message 78: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (_jes) i'm signed up for 17 units comprised of:
-thought and image in the humanities

how is everyone's semester going??
any great classes, really bad classes, amazing professors, etc. ??

message 80: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) All of mine are going pretty great! I love almost all of my professors and the stuff I'm reading is really interesting!

Can't wait to hear about everyone else's!

Jamie, how are you holding up without classes?

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
I'm glad that yours is going so well!!

I am dying without classes!! I mean..first because I have no job and I am really bored..but secondly..because when I think about it..school is what I know..it's comfortable..I have been doing school since I was in pre-school..yeah..it always changes..but it's still school..and i really did love college..as much as i was so ready to be done..i wish that i was back! lol

message 82: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I'm still trying to get into the swing of things. I really like my two law seminars and my history class. But I'm not a huge fan of Survey of American Lit (required), Literary Theory and Criticism (required), or my French Lit (mainly because I'm not thinking French again yet). But I have hopes French and the Survey will get better with time. Theory seems to be taking all of the fun out of reading.

How is everyone else doing?

message 83: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Ugh. I'm completely freaking out about my classes this semester. I'm a Deaf Studies major, so all of my classes are conducted in American Sign Language and all my teachers are Deaf, which is pretty cool. BUT this semester all of my classes are HUGE and in all of my classes, we have to get up in front of the class regularly and sign. I have trouble getting up in front of a huge crowd and speaking English, so this is really freaking me out. I'm trying to just take it as it comes and not get too stressed about it, but it's really hard not to...

message 84: by Janet (new)

Janet My semester is good, for now. I have like the professors of all professors this semester, they're all like nationally known in the field of Special Education, it's pretty sweet. But I am nervous because I have a TON of HUGE projects due this semester. It's going to suck!! But I like my classes as of right now haha!!

message 85: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie I'm thinking about dropping one of my classes right now... It just hasn't been like what I imagined and I don't need it to graduate or anything... But at the same time I would feel like I'm wimping out or something.. I just think I'm probably going to get a B in the class and why even take it?

Then I found out yesterday I could have taken one of my major courses this semester.. My advisor had told me not to sign up b/c the instructor wouldn't let me b/c I was too young but another girl my age is in there sooo yeah that made me kinda mad.

message 86: by Silvia (new)

Silvia (silverware) | 436 comments I start classes tomorrow! YAY! These are my classess:
Cognition
Cognitive Neuropsychology
Stress and Health
Topics in Psychology and Forensics

message 87: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie I need to take Stress and Health! haha.

message 88: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Haha. Me too. I'm taking Biology and I hate it. Absoulutely hate it. It's too much for my brain to comprehend!

message 89: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Lynn don't feel like a whimp for dropping a class. Some classes aren't meant for everyone plus you don't know what might come up instead of taking it.

message 90: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
i agree..i ended up dropping classes and i have never regretted doing it in the end.

message 91: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker It's never fun to take a class you don't enjoy, especially if you don't specifically need it. I dropped my upper level soc course for an upper level history course (I need 18 hours of non-English classes) and I feel like it was the best decision I've made in a while.

message 92: by [deleted user] (new)

Can ye guys choose all of the classes that ye want to go to?

message 93: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Sort of. I have specific classes that I have to take to get my majors. But I'll have to choose like 3 out of 5. And I also get 5 or 6 electives that have to be in a different area, but loosely related. I'm majoring in English and History, so I couldn't take an engineering class, but I could take a philosophy class.

message 94: by Sara (new)

Sara (thelukewarm225) | 15 comments pretty much the same as last semester only part two of everything. i see theyre arent any other music majors but thats ok. this semester...

modern european lit
american lit part two
western civ part two
brit lit part two
history and development of music styles III
piano II
lesson VI
written theory IV
flute ensemble
band

fun times, except western civ. the book is just horribly written and while it mentions literature and art it complete leaves out music (ah yes lets talk about romanticism and nationalism, mention some artists and writers but ofrget about composers such as Beethoven and Wagner. ughhhhh)

message 95: by [deleted user] (new)

Em.....yeah, I wish the Irish university system was like that! (That said though, I'm not officially allowed to study philosophy/human rights but they can't stop me from going to the lectures- which I do).

Are any of you taking summer classes right now/at any point this summer?

If so, what are you taking?

message 97: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I'm taking the Modern Middle East, which ends on Thursday. I'm also taking an online math class. I'll start a Renaissance History class on Monday, which will end July 3. Then I have a Vietnam War class from August 3 to August 14. I'm really hoping to get A's in all of those classes because my GPA is very close to putting me on probation with the honors college. It's right at a 3.5 and if it goes below, I have a problem.

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I am taking two classes: Management and Organizations, and International Business. It is four hours a day Monday through Thursday and the teacher is a bore. The good thing though is it is over after just 5 weeks, and the classes are just a bunch of busy work, so an A should be pretty easy to get.

message 99: by Bree (new)

Bree (breezybaby) | 144 comments I'm taking a general history class this summer. Boring! And I'm taking Spanish online which should be easy.

message 100: by [deleted user] (new)

well this summer i am taking English 102 advanced composition and CPR, both of which are night classes lasting 3 or more hrs, its ok i have been in worse and besides i have nothing to complain about because i am very close to graduating... so knock these two out with As and finish up.
