Night and Day by Robert B. Parker

After having such a good run of interesting, enjoyable reads I suppose it was inevitable that I hit a slump. This book was the shortest novel I have picked up in a long time and has taken me the longest time to read. I kept feeling I ought to like it but couldn't quite get myself to do so. All the ingredients were there, a small town mystery, several interesting and complex characters, short sharp and witty dialogue. Somehow it didn't quite all come together for me and I never had those 'just one more page' moments with this story. Maybe the problem was that this novel is the eighth in a series and I haven't read any of the others but I'm not interested enough to go back to the beginning and find out

1984, a book that is totally different from what I expected. And for that reason, and upon finishing the first 100 pages, I stopped for a while to understand what I read. However, when I continued reading it, I found myself admiring it if only for the style of writing that is so beautiful and made the description much more vivid. I am a fan of such styles.

As for the story, I find that I have mixed feelings. After reading so many books that have this "extremely controlling governments" or "Big Brothers", I find that I am not too thrilled with it.

Although I still prefer Soft Target because it was a bit more complex and fast-paced but I overlooked this book because it was like an introduction of Shepherd's life. However, I know this series is getting better.

رأيت رام الله ليست مجرد رواية أو سرد، إنها سيرة ذاتية مؤلمة ومليئة بالوجع لعائلة كانت تلتقي ثلاث أسابيع صيفا وثلاث أخرى شتاء كل عام، عائلة نُفي الوالد فيها عنها عندما كان عمر الابن خمسة شهور ليناديه حين يلتقيه في شهره الثالث عشر بـ "عمو بابا"، رأيت رام الله تحكي الشتات، تحكي اللجوء، وتحكي قصة الكثير من العائلات الفلسطينية.. عميقة، عميقة، عميقة وموجعة بحجم الشتات وتفرق الأفراد، حادة كصوت رنين الهاتف في منتصف الليل ليخبر عن رحيل قريب أو حبيب في قارة أخرى.. رواية لاتقرؤها، بل تعيش تفاصيلها

The Funhouse

I liked it, but it was definitely outdated which made it kinda cheesy too. I really like anything having to do with fairs or carnivals and so I really enjoyed the carnival lore and traditions in this. I didn't really like Amy, the MC, but I think that's because she was too naive and the author didn't know how to write a teen girls perspective. It was creepy and disturbing but still fun! My first Dean Koontz and I think I'll read others

Choke by Chuck Palahniuk

I made the mistake of reading Choke too soon after reading Invisible Monsters. I think I might have loved it a lot more if I read it after I started missing Palahniuk's writing.



I don't know how I feel about it. There are no definite feelings, but I guess I liked it a lot at parts.

Might read it again later to fully absorb it, even though it's not one of Palahniuk's "confusing" novels.

يسهل علينا أن نتخيل أن اتصالنا بحياة ذكية خارج الأرض سيكون مباشراً، وسنستطيع أن نتواصل معهم بوضوح. ستانيسلو ليم، المؤلف البولندي يطرح في روايته هذه احتمالية أن تكون الحياة الخاردية معقدة، ومختلفة بدرجة أنه لا توجد أي طريقة لنا بالتواصل معها، حتى اذا استطعنا لمسها، أو دراسة أجزاء من طريقة تصرفها.

الحياة الأخرى في "سولاريس" هي محيط. بل عدة محيطات. هي كائن واحد، يسكن على كوكب لوحده. ليس بجسم كما نتخيله، لكنها أشبه ببحر هائل، يحيط بالكوكب، ويتغلغل في أعماقه، تعلوه أمواج معقده وتراكيب عجيبة، ويدرسه أجيال وراء أجيال من العلماء لمحاولة فهمه، أو فهم مالذي يعني لنا كبشر.

تدور أحداث الرواية في محطة علمية في مدار حول كوكب سولاريس، معنية بدراسة الكوكب وساكنه الوحيد. يتفاجئ العلماء الثلاثة في المحطة بأحداث غريبة، ويزورهم زوار لم يكونوا يتوقعونهم بأي شكل من الأشكال.

I found this really funny and interesting. I even learned a thing or two. I loved the Body oddities, Medicine from the Movies and TV and Old Wives Tales chapters.

كتاب صغير جدا يتحدث فيه الكاتب عن حلول عملية لنستطيع رفعة الإسلام.. يتكلم عن أخطاء شائعة نقوم بها باسم الدين أو ممن هم محسوبين على الدين ولكن للأسف يفتقدون "الحكمة"
مما يؤدي كنتيجة سلبية بخسارة الدين للأسف..
تحدث عن مسؤولية رجل الدين ومسؤوليتنا كمسلمين .. ومسؤولية من هم مسسؤولين عن هيئات التعليم والدعوة..

Major Crush by Jennifer Echols

My rating: 4 of 5 stars


Great book. I loved this piece of fluff, and Jennifer Echols has now redeemed herself in my eyes after the fiasco that was Love Story. The dialogue was funny and witty, all the characters lovable, and Virginia's been added to my list of favorite quirky characters.
Even though a few things in the book were finished off a little to cleanly. I don't mind. I love a happy ending.
