Hello group, this is where we shall post suggestions and comments on how to improve the group.

All comments and suggestions are welcome, but please make sure you are not offensive :D

♫♫☺Allie☺♫♫ (alliwicious) | 28 comments Can I ask a question?

I'll ask anyway. Are non-mods allowed to add topics as long as the something to do with the folder they're in?

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) yes absolutely.
As long as, if say you're adding a thread for a series could you add the pictures of the books by clicking add book/author at the top of the text box and clicking cover at the bottom of the box coming in.
Just so all the discussions have the pics so we know what the books look like.

♫♫☺Allie☺♫♫ (alliwicious) | 28 comments Okay. :}

Carole-Ann (blueopal) There is an Adult Vampire/Paranormal/UF group here on GR which has similar content to this group.

So what is different about this group? Is it because the Adult group is for 18+? Or what?

Well with PNR, YA and UF being such a loved genre there are going to be a few different groups on here about the same thing :D

I myself am a member of quite a few of these groups :D

Emma (emma_books) | 136 comments Me too! But I love being part of a new group and watching it grow :D

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) me too. I don't see the problem with having different groups that are similar. i am a mod in 2 this one included and go on others as a member.

i love being part of the different groups that have different members and you get to speak to different ppl about the same books

Trish Jensen (trishjensen) | 11 comments I hope this isn't the wrong place for this question, Cassie and Kay.

I've been told by my editor that NO, she DID NOT want a serious book from me. She wanted another comedy. Fine, I can do that. With a great, unusual hook. Check. And please have a paranormal element. SCREECH!!!!!!!!!!!! to a halt. Huh? Para...paranormal? ME??? I've written exactly two time travels, and one was an anthology. That's as close of as I've gotten to paranormal. And I'm not even certain you purists consider time travels paranormals.

ANY, funny paranormal, check. Except, I'm not a huge fan of vampires, werewolves, hairy or killing things, unless I have goon thugs as villains.

Besides that, my best bud and critique partner Sandra Hill is right now writing the second book in a seven book funny vampire series (seriously funny, seriously good) that's launching this fall I believe. Sure as heck will not tackle one of those when it's what she's writing and I'm reading and critiquing.

And like I said, werewolves are not my thing. Not even certain what a shapeshifter is. I suppose I could do a witch or warlock type thing, but whenever I think funny witch, I immediately think of Jill Barnett's witch books (Bewitching is the first one, I believe), which were fabulous. I started a haunted mansion one with the original owners of the mansion still hanging around in a ghostly fashion, hellbent and determined to make certain that all of the residents and guests found love, but it just hasn't worked. I keep kind of getting stuck on what I want their real roles to be, what they are and are not capable of, etc.

So at critique today, I laid out my basic problem, and Sandra and our other partner and I brainstormed possibilities with funny scenarios.

So I decided to ask experts. What kind of paranormal elements would you like to see in a funny paranormal? I can imagine that many of you aren't interested in funny in your paranormals. But for those who like to read humor occasionally, can you think of an element or a paranormal "talent" for lack of a better word, that you could see working in a comedy?

Right now my front runner idea is a woman who can read minds (or at least bits and pieces of others' thoughts. This works well for her in her business, called Gotcha. She's a PI whose specialty is catching cheating spouses for suspicious husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends. And trust me, I already have GOOD motivation for her to think she's doing the world a favor with this line of work.

Would that fly? Or would you hate that premise? Are there any other paranormal elements that you enjoy and could see turning them funny?

Thanks SO MUCH for any help.

Trish

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) i love funny paranormals. I think so many paranormal books are so serious and usually really sad so i love a light-hearted funny paranormal.

Your front runner is definitely something I would read. It sounds awesome.

i will have a think if there is anything else i can think of as ideas for a funny paranormal and get bck to you but i don't thin i would be able to come up with something that tops that.

Emma (emma_books) | 136 comments I love funny paranormals too! I like to read a few serious ones and then a few not so serious ones..

I like books where the lead is female! I think reading minds is reeeally cool! I love books about that. I also like books with woman who can sense where dead people are, who can talk to dead people.
Maybe telekinese, moving object with your mind.. erm, I would love to read a story about a strong woman (you know, one who can kick down walls and fight other man, trouble with drinking and not squeezing your cup in shatters) lol, maybe someone who can fly? But of course that could lead back to telekinese, if you can move object you can also move yourself.

Pfsss, I don't know? I think you should stick with your idea XD

Jen (jenlr) I also love funny/cheeky paranormal books! I also love sassy characters!

Your idea sounds interesting...you have my attention

Lauren Hunter (laurenhunter) | 7 comments You just described a sci-fi book I wrote. lol Female lead, reads minds, psychokinetic ability. Just right now it's stuck in limbo with a publisher. :( I'm trying to get my rights back so I can move it to another publisher. The paranormal I wrote, coming out on Oct. 14 doesn't have vampires or werewolves but is about alternate timelines and time paradox. Wasn't sure if it would fit into this group.

Do you have a thread the Author's area? And have you introduced yourself in the Intro sections as both of those would be a good way to start asking :)

Lauren Hunter (laurenhunter) | 7 comments Thanks for all the help! Is that the same group as the one on FB: Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy Book Lovers? I have already sent a review copy to them. If they are not the same group then I will definitely ask them if they'd like to review it. Thanks so much for the help. I really appreciate it! :)
