Mairéad | 23 comments Hi I'm just wondering if they writes books for adults?

Regarding Darren Shan, all I ever usually see around the place are 'The Demonata' and Cirque du Freak series, and I've been told that the latter is aimed mostly at kids/Y.A (but then again so is Harry Potter!). It probably doesn't help that my local librarian lumps all the sci-fi and fantasy books into the Y.A section because she's run out of space in the adult fiction section! XD

Also, every time I see one of his books they bear the statement 'The Master of Horror' on them. Is this true? Or can authors just go around saying those kinds of things? I've always wondered about that!

Regarding Eoin Colfer, I loved his writing style and stories as a kid and young teen so I would like to read more of his stuff now! (:Darren Shan

Kim | 1499 comments Eoin Colfer wrote the 6th Hitchhiker's book but I didn't really like it that much. I don't consider it a fair judge of his work though as he was trying to write in someone else's style and story.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 1894 comments I couldn't really tell you anything about Darren Shan, as I never knew who he was until right now, and I've never read any of his books. Kinda doubt that "Master of horror" thing, though.

Eoin Colfer I know a bit more about, but he does write mainly YA books. He wrote And Another Thing..., which is a continuation of the Hitchhiker's Guide series (#6) by Douglas Adams, which is adult, but that's a little different I think.

But, why does it matter if he writes YA rather than "adult" books? If you enjoy it, read it!

Eoin Co..."

Because I've read most of Colfer's Y.A books and regarding Darren Shan, well my cousin and a lot of my friends read his Cirque du Freak books when they were 12 or so and when I asked them about them they said that yes that would proper seem a bit juvenile to me at this stage.
Also I'm to break into more modern horror at the moment without going for the likes of Kings etc. straight away!

Ethan Jones | 3 comments As a rabid obsessive hyper-fan of DNA and the HHGTG, I actually enjoyed Colfer's "And Another Thing." It had a different flavor than the rest of the series, definitely, and it's certainly not a necessary addition, but it's a fun read, and certainly worth checking out.

Valerie (versusthesiren) I know that Colfer just released an adult book this year called Plugged, but I'm not sure how well it's taken off or how much promotion it's gotten - it doesn't seem to have very many Goodreads reviews yet.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) The Demonata series is more adult in tone than the Cirque du Freak books. I read the first one of both, and I prefer Demonata, but I think Shan is a good writer. It's probably the publisher who called him that to sell books, so don't hold that against him. He has an adult series out:

Procession of the Dead
Hell's Horizon
City of the Snakes

I think Colfer is a great writer. I wished he'd write an adult book since I love the Artemis Fowl books. I actually wish he'd write some Artemis Fowl books with him as an adult.
