Chris (chrismccaffrey) What issues did you have with Cujo, Gatorman? I agree about Everything's Eventual (I liked 1408 though) and Just After Sunset. I did like Full Dark, No Stars though.

I am with Hans, I didn't like Bag of Bones either, but I know that Jon and several other people I know liked it so it is clearly a matter of taste.

I also agree that the supernatural aspect of Rose Madder seemed completely unnecessary to me.

I don't know if Gerald's Game is worth slogging through to get to the good parts at the end. If I still had the book, I would look up the part where the strange character makes his appearance and just tell you to read from there.

Chris (chrismccaffrey) I am really looking forward to the sequel to The Shining and he also says he is writing a novel about a serial killer in an amusement park. That could be really good.

message 453: by Chris (new)

Chris (chrismccaffrey) I have only heard good things about Neville's The Ritual and he is pretty high up on my TBR list.

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) Chris, I checked Amazon again and The Ritual is now available at "reasonable" cost, so stuffed it in my shopping cart; a few months ago I could only find it at inflated prices. Happy Himself mentioned it which inspired me to go check again. I really enjoyed Apartment 16-but it did go on and on in spots.

I didn't find it compelling. It kind of slogged on and just didn't grip me the way King's books usually do.

message 456: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman Just finished Them or Us. Excellent finish to the Hater trilogy. Just starting Dead Sea. Let's see what all the fuss is about.

message 457: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments It's been a while since King was a "must read" for me.

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) I still read every King and every Koontz. The latter hasn't disappointed me-yet. I have a habit of reading everything by an author if I once (or first) enjoy her or him.

message 459: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I can't read Koontz anymore.
I think his brain broke.......

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) LOL! Chacun a son gout. I have an author friend on FB who will not read any Koontz until he publishes a new one in the Christopher Snow series.

message 461: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman I'm done with Koontz, too. He is way too hit or miss and Relentless was one of the worst books I've ever read. A total embarassment.

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) Hmm.. I reread Relentless recently and was very pleased.:) Now off to read Dark Blessings: A Collection for review; quite looking forward to it.

How long has he been promising that?

Well before Odd Thomas....

Chacun a son gout.......Mucus garcias?

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) He'll have a new Odd book out in July--

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I can't even figure out how to classify his books lately.

I liked DREAMCATCHER until the story left Duddits.

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Kealan wrote: "That book had the same problem for me that CELL had. Classic King for the first half, crap for the second."

I know I've mentioned it before, I think King is just welding short story ideas together to make them novel length.

message 469: by Marc (new)

Marc Iverson (marc_iverson) | 243 comments Stephen King could make a novel out of a post-it note.

message 470: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments He does have a problem finding the point, sometimes.

He might benefit from the "Vlad the Impaler" editing method......

message 471: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments He needed to be hit in the temple with a hardcover copy of INSOMNIA.....

message 472: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman I loved Insomnia. Thought it was far better than 11/22/63. I know I'm in the minority for really liking Dreamcatchers but I found it to be gripping throughout. Not his best but still very good. Better than Cell.

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) I liked Insomnia also, reread it a couple months ago.

message 474: by Chris (new)

Chris (chrismccaffrey) Just finished "Kin" by Kealan Patrick Burke, which I loved, and in continuing with my "disturbing books" motif I am about to start "Last Exit to Brooklyn."

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) Disturbing, indeed:))

Try "Journey to the End of the Night," IMO.

message 477: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman Currently reading Dead Sea by Tim Curran .

message 478: by Char (new)

Char Oooh, Gator. I would love to hear what you think when you're done. I've heard a lot (good) but mostly from people who have different tastes than mine.

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) that does look tasty!

message 480: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Reading The Curse and The Sound of Midnight by Charles L. Grant

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) can never go wrong with Charles L. Grant

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Ain't it the truth! ;)

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) Just received Shutter Island and Mystic River; and put The Given Day in my cart earlier this AM. I saw on The Book Page today that Mr. Lehane will publish a sequel to The Given Day in October, so I thought i'd better get busy now.:)

message 484: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I haven't read The Given Day yet.

Cobwebs-in-Space-Ice (readingreindeerproximacentauri) I don't agree about The Turtle Boy series, since of course I am absolutely enamoured of them:)))
but I read a novel yesterday and today for review that I thought would be like to kill me from sheer aggravation with the protagonist and lack of interest in whatever possible outcome that fool would encounter--and in my review pointed out exactly where the book ought to have begun and why. (sigh) Probably did not make a fan with that one.

Just what I was thinking. Maybe he'll get it right with the last volume. :)

This would work better if you wrote longer books.....

I decided against that one when I saw the over-the-top raves were mixed with enough such criticisms that I didn't trust the raves anymore.

Hans | 63 comments just bought CLICKERS by J.F. Gonzalez. should take me all of 2 hours to get through.

message 491: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Multi-tasking, Hans?

message 492: by Chris (new)

Chris (chrismccaffrey) I enjoyed that book. And the second and the third in the series. They were fun and definitely a quick read.

message 493: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I hate that.
