I was reading Drood before I got a Kindle.

Char I was just busting you, my lovable Recluse.
A sad attempt to be funny. : )

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Maybe it's just me, but I know exactly when my taste finally matured. 1978. If I liked it then, I still like it now.

The question is; can they?

My money is on the Irish fella.

message 556: by Char (new)

Char I finished Tamed. It wasn't terrible.

I started Wolf's Hour by McCammon. I don't know why, but I can't get the link thing to work. I am pretty sure I read this one back in the day, but I don't remember it.

message 557: by Char (new)

Char The collection is out already! I'm told it's very good.

The other thing that is nice is that the publisher allows all of them to be loanable.

Kealan, definitely write a coming-of-age horror novel! Those are my favorites from Summer of Night (which I just finished a few weeks ago) to IT, A Boy's Life, The Body (aka Stand by Me), etc. I love them all for their nostalgic feel.

Do you think you can capture the feel of Americana authentically since you were raised in Ireland? I suppose research could take the place of experience easily enough...or would you write its setting in Ireland?

message 559: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments I have Drood in my TBR pile and just received The Terror in the mail today. Now if only a certain Irish author could get more of his books in paper form.....;)

I did find a hardcover copy of KIN, Kealan. I ordered it today!

Chris, I have heard of Ha Jin but haven't picked anything of his up yet. I do love stories from China and now I have a recommendation of his work. I will check him out; thanks.

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments The only thing I've read from China is the WalMart Employee Manual.

Not printed in China.

message 564: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments Why would the Chinese government write a WalMart employee manual, moron?? :P

message 565: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Who do you think owns WalMart, the store that sells baby toys made with lead paint? Toxic dog treats? Milk spelled with an "R"?

Disney?

message 566: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments Try the Walton family, out of Bentonville, AR. I've even been there, in person and all! I didn't see Chairman Mao once, even if all their stuff comes from China!

message 567: by Jon Recluse (last edited May 12, 2012 05:30PM) (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments The Walton's are a front.
Think about it.

The Walton's...?

Running a non-union shop in this country, with a Democrat in the highest office, that hasn't been called on the carpet for endangering consumers and ignoring any and all recalls.

Only one thing can explain that.

Diplomatic Immunity.

message 576: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman Just started something called Currency Of Souls by some Irish guy who I maybe heard of before. Not sure. It better not suck.

message 577: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I heard his writing could suck the paint off a Buick.

message 578: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman I heard that, too, but I'm trying him anyway.

message 579: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments It's your Buick.

message 580: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments It could be, for only $2,000 down and $199.99 a month!

message 581: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments True, you can't get that kind of trunk space anymore....

message 582: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I got an ebook copy of The Wicked

message 583: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman Just finished Currency Of Souls. Burke, you are the man! Another fantastic effort. Any book that channels the ghost of Dean Martin must kick ass!

message 584: by Char (new)

Char Thanks for the post, Gator!

message 585: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman The Dean Martin scenes are great. So bizarre but way cool. Don't listen to people (except us, of course!)

message 586: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments You tell him, Gatorman! ;)

message 587: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I'm enjoying THE WICKED, if I can ever get back to it.

message 588: by Jon Recluse (last edited May 25, 2012 11:58PM) (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I love 80s horror, I really liked MIDNIGHT RAIN, and your blurb for it sealed the deal.
Hopefully, I can get back to it this weekend.

message 589: by Char (new)

Char I just started Mystery Walk. I'm on a McCammon roll here.

message 590: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I was thinking the same thing. It's probably the only McCammon I haven't reread.

message 591: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments I don't even remember what Mystery Walk was about so I am sure it'd be almost like new to me. Maybe with a touch of deja vu.

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments Tell me about it. Before my dad passed, we had to have SOME fun with his Alzheimer's....I think I might be going to hell for some of the stuff we did....;)

message 596: by Jon Recluse (new)

message 597: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments Well if that Alzheimers kicks in, one never knows... you'll be in hell and won't even remember why!

message 598: by Jon Recluse (new)
