Chris (chrismccaffrey) We need a mop. Charlene has been drooling again...

I need a change of pace from horror for a bit. I just started a British murder mystery

Char Chris, I am right at the end of They Thirst. I should finish tonight. Thanks so much for the loan, it is much appreciated! : )

message 1653: by Chris (new)

Chris (chrismccaffrey) My pleasure. Any time!

I really enjoyed it and am thinking of re-reading 'Salem's Lot to compare them. They are both vampire "take-over" stories but of course 'Salem's Lot is on a much smaller scale.

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I'm reading THE WHITE ROAD.

By John Connolly?

message 1656: by Char (new)

Char If it is, that's good stuff right there.

Yes.

message 1658: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments The way Connolly blurs the line between the natural and the supernatural is simply incredible.

message 1659: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman You got that right.

message 1660: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I usually do. ;)

message 1661: by Char (new)

Char Yeah, you do, Jon. I think you have incredibly good taste in books. : )

message 1662: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman Let the lovefest begin.

message 1663: by Char (new)

Char What, Gator? I haven't read one thing that Jon has recommended to me that I haven't enjoyed. That's all I'm saying. If that's a lovefest, so be it.
Somehow though, I thought a lovefest would be more fun.

message 1664: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman I'm joking, I'm joking. Jeez Louise!

message 1665: by Char (new)

Char OK. That means that as soon as Kealan, John Connolly and Dennis Lehane are free the REAL lovefest can begin!

; P

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Want some earplugs?

message 1669: by Char (new)

Char LOL! I'm just joking. Mostly.

message 1670: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Gotta give the fans what they want, Kealan.

message 1671: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I'm sure Charlene can give you a perfectly reasonable explanation why you should.

message 1672: by Char (new)

Char I could give you two! LOL

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments There you go!

message 1674: by Aurora (new)

Aurora | 9 comments I just finished rereading Frankenstein and the book has left me very confused. Would anyone care to read my review of it and give feedback? I'm not sure if I'm extrapolating and inferring too much in order to give some sense to a generally blase book..... Any insights and contributions would be appreciated!

message 1675: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments I still have Frankenstein on my shelf to read some day. Not sure I ever will but in the meantime, I am not much help, sorry.

message 1676: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments So for those of you who have read The Terror by Dan Simmons and still have their books or e-book handy, I have a question. It involves a ****SPOILER**** so please don't read this unless you've read the book already.

****SPOILER***** I am looking at what I think is a typo or flat out mistake by the author. If you go to Chapter 12, page 129, the heading gives the latitude, longitude and date, which is May 24-June 3, 1847. It then goes into Dr. Goodsir going with the men of the Erebus, led by Lt Gore onto the ice to try and find clear water, only to be decimated by a lightning storm that injures one of the men.

The next chapter, Chapter 13 on page 141, shows the date as June 3, 1946....and the captain sees the men coming back to the ship with Lt Gore dead. Clearly they have just come back from the same trip on the ice but something happened on the way back. But THE DATES ARE WRONG! Gore can't be alive in 1847 if he died in 1846? I think they screwed up the 1846 date. Did anyone else catch this?*****END SPOILERS*****

message 1677: by Char (new)

Char No, I don't. Of course, I read it many years ago so that's not surprising.
Other than the date screw up are you enjoying it?

Char Aurora wrote: "I just finished rereading Frankenstein and the book has left me very confused. Would anyone care to read my review of it and give feedback? I'm not sure if I'm extrapolating and inferring too muc..."

I wouldn't be much help, Aurora. In fact, I'm planning to re-read Frankenstein sometime this month.

Oh yes! Absolutely-it's only because I am so into it that I paid such attention to detail in the first place!

message 1680: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments These things happen.
I'm amazed at the typos I'm finding in my old paperbooks.

I see words spelled incorrectly from time to time but this one really took me by surprise and I wasted a good twenty minutes making sure I wasn't just a dunce, missing something obvious. LOL

message 1682: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Did you really think that 99 years had gone by?

message 1683: by Marc (new)

Marc Iverson (marc_iverson) | 243 comments I caught that you wrote 1946 instead of 1846 ...

message 1684: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments The Devil is in the details, Kealan.

message 1685: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments My only problem with FRANKENSTEIN is that the instructions aren't really clear. Which side of the corpse do you hook up the positive cable? Is it positive first, or negative? They keep bursting into flames when I turn on the juice......

message 1686: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman Just finished the short stories Thumbprint: A Story and Extraction. Gave both 2 stars. Neither one is worth the effort.

Just started Say You're Sorry.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 35 comments oh that last I was a typo.

message 1691: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 35 comments Finished The Turtle Boy. Very cool. Kin is next on my list, although now I want to buy all the Tommy Quinn books. What a conundrum!

message 1692: by Char (new)

Char OMG Kin is so good! You can't go wrong either way, really.

message 1693: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Get them all and screw the conundrum!!!

message 1694: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 35 comments Thanks, guys. I am going to read Kin because I've been very intrigued since a friend read it and compared it to Jack Ketchum. I will definitely read the rest of Timmy's story. How could I not after being sucked into his strange little universe. Just say no to conundrums!

message 1695: by Chris (new)

Chris (chrismccaffrey) The Jack Ketchum comparison is accurate. It is beautifully horrible just like his novels are.

message 1696: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments You may have out-Ketchumed Ketchum with KIN, Kealan.

message 1697: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 35 comments Kealan, thanks for your wonderful stories. I am digging in to KIN now. Looks very promising.

message 1698: by Marc (new)

Marc Iverson (marc_iverson) | 243 comments Reading "Raven" by Charles Grant. Not completely sold on it. The style is often irritating and the viewpoint switches can be bewildering. It feels a bit stretched out, too, even though it's not long. One of the characters seems inconsistent and kind of manipulated to fit plot needs rather than organic. I'll finish it, but I'm not thrilled with it.

message 1699: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Can't please everyone, I suppose.

message 1700: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments I know there are a lot of fans of Dan Simmons The Terror. Did you know three mummies were found from the doomed expeditions? Someone posted an awesome (sad) video of the discoveries. The music will stay in your head long after you finish watching, too. This video has really brought home the sacrifices these men made.
