Char Wasn't that video something else?
I just thought from the facial expressions that the men all looked so damn cold.

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments Really sad, is what it is. I didn't know the background of The Terror until now. I think I got some spoilers there but that's OK. LOL

message 1703: by Char (new)

Char Well, you had to guess that some of them weren't going to make it, right? So it's not too much of a spoiler.
Plus the story is so well written, it really won't let you go.
I think I have said it before, but it bears repeating:
Those guys were freakin insane!

message 1704: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments I agree-but it was the money that convinced them. They made enough money to keep them sitting pretty for a good, long while. And they were led to believe that there WAS a way through the ice; it was just a matter of finding it.

message 1705: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments All things being equal, it wasn't the brightest idea to begin with.

message 1706: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments I agree with both your statements.

message 1707: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Naturally.

Kealan and I are generally always right.
Unless he disagrees with me.
Then I'm still right, only more so, y'know?

Yeah, but money does no good if you're frozen to death! The track record for explorers of that time isn't very good to start with. Add to that the possibility of being frozen in the ice for months or years?
No thank you, I will remain poor! : )

message 1713: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I'm reading DROOD.

Gator, I really liked MYSTERY.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

message 1714: by Bill (new)

Bill (shiftyj1) | 138 comments Just started Pines and Picking the Bones. Hoping to finish them both before I have to go back to work Monday.

message 1715: by Jon Recluse (new)

Cynthia (cynthiaeaton) | 5 comments Midlisters was very good!

message 1717: by Char (last edited Nov 25, 2012 07:59AM) (new)

Char I hope you enjoy Pines, Bill. I would love to hear what you think. Crouch has been a little hit or miss for me.

message 1718: by Bill (new)

Bill (shiftyj1) | 138 comments I'm about 3/4 of the way thru and it is good, but I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Very twisty and I'm not sure where it is going. I'll give you an update when I finish ;)

message 1719: by Carol (new)

Carol | 15 comments I am going to read Shaun Allan- SIN next. I have read the sample and it looks amazing. Very interesting main character.

I gave it 3 stars. It was good. I thought it had a real chance at being great, but fell down somewhere along the line. The end threw a twist out there which I don't think was fully realized to its potential.

Yep, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about.
Thanks for letting me know, Bill. : )

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments So I finally joined the 21st century and bought a Kindle Fire today. Amazon has them for $129 today only, if you enter the code FIREDEAL at checkout. I figure a $200 Kindle for $130 was worth it. And now I have no excuse to not read Kealan's Timmy Quinn series. ;)
Merry Christmas to me!

message 1723: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Yay, you!

message 1724: by Char (new)

Char Merry Christmas to you, Sharon!
I just got one and I'm loving it! : )

message 1725: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments Thank you! I thought you already had one? Or did you get a new one?

message 1726: by Char (new)

Char I have a Kindle Keyboard 3G. Then when I checked my points at work a few weeks back, I had a whole big bunch and two Fires were available through the program, so I got the HD with the 7" screen and it came with a cover.
I'm still finding my way around it.
I thought the backlighting would hurt my eyes, but I was wrong. It has a 'sepia' tone you can set it to and then I just lowered the brightness and it's working well.

message 1727: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments Ah cool! I hope I can figure out how to DL all the Kindle stuff I saved to my computer to the Fire once I get it in. I have a lot of Scott Nicholson's books in my Kindle for PC files plus some classic freebies like Lafcadio Hearn's ghost stories of Japan, China and more.

message 1728: by Char (new)

Char I noticed there is a Kealan book on sale today, Thirty Miles South Of Dry County is discounted from 3.82 to 2.99.
Not that that is a big discount, but it's a discount.
: )

message 1729: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments YAY!!!!!!

message 1730: by Marc (new)

Marc Iverson (marc_iverson) | 243 comments Wow, that's a great deal, Sharon. I've been coveting one for a while and am jealous!

message 1731: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments It's only good til midnight, Marc! Find someone to buy you a Christmas present!!!

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments I'm still waiting for the copy of Ash I ordered from the library, so I picked up Night Has a Thousand Eyes and Bad Things

message 1733: by Char (new)

Char I am LOVING Darkfuse. : )

message 1734: by Glen (new)

Glen Krisch | 38 comments I needed to get some writing business squared away today, but I started reading The Memory Tree by John R. Little. Didn't mean to read more than the first chapter or so. But damn, I'm at 90% complete, and I'm only typing this because I needed a moment to breathe. It's my first Little. The guy can flat-out write.

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments I love it when a book does that to you!

message 1737: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments What gets me is that you never hear about those books.

WTF?

It's just more of the same from the same bunch of tired old has beens on the NYT Bestsellers List.

WTF?

message 1738: by Marc (new)

Marc Iverson (marc_iverson) | 243 comments Well, I can confirm that I've never heard of it.

message 1739: by Char (new)

Char I haven't heard of it either. But now I'm interested.

message 1740: by Char (new)

Char Wow! 35 ratings and it comes in at a 4.49 average. That's pretty good! Why haven't I heard of this guy before?

message 1741: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments Because you don't listen.
Kealan mentioned him.
I read it and mentioned him.

WTF?

message 1742: by Char (new)

Char Maybe I zoned out? It happens.

I added it this time to my TBR. So it won't happen again.

OK? : )

message 1743: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 35 comments Finished KIN, and I am still blown away. Great novel, Kealan. Thanks for writing it! I think I might check out THE MEMORY TREE next. I might never have heard of it if not for this thread. It does sound promising.

message 1744: by Sharon/ LFrog1386 (new)

Sharon/ LFrog1386 (lfrog1386) | 301 comments Soon I shall have my Kindle and go crazy uploading all kinds of novels you all recommend until I have more than I could ever possibly read in a lifetime but I won't care because HE WHO DIES WITH THE MOST BOOKS WINS. ;)

message 1749: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 2066 comments The Memory Tree is loanable.

Any takers?

message 1750: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 35 comments Charlene, it was superb. I dare say, better than I hoped it would be. I loved the characterizations, how the seemingly separate storylines came together and the perfect ending. Nice, very nice. I will never think of the word rebirth in quite the same way.
