The Stirling series is entertaining but far from plausible in relation to One Second After. I personally have enjoyed the Dies The Fire series especially the first three books but it is a different kettle of fish, mixing elements of fantasy. Both books document the breakdown of societies which is always a scary thought.

The book is called One Second After, by Willian Forstchen, quite a scary read about how society falls apart where everything computerized and electronic is rendered useless after a EMP blast. Worth reading.
