Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm not. Yet.
If you've found other fun and friendly groups that you feel are worth sharing, please tell us about them.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I have joined the moderators group. It has been quite helpful as they share information about good (and bad) practice. I considered joining the kindle group (USA) but most of it was about the USA store and how much they hate authors so I didn't bother.
I am too busy with this group now but am interested how you get on in other groups. If you are in other groups please let us know what things you like so we can include them here.....

message 3: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I thought about joining other groups, but worried i might overwhelm myself with lots of things to read and lots of message boards to keep an eye on.

I am tempted by one group Irish readers or something like that. I'd like to read more books by Irish authors only ones i've read by irish authors (that i know of) are the Artemis Fowl series and Guess How Much I Love You. And by the by I recommend Guess How Much for all parents whose children do not own this, and even girlfriends/wifes/other halfs, its such a cute story really tugs at the old heart strings but then i'm just a big softie and sorry i just turned this into a recommendation. Please don't ban me for posting in the wrong place!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Ban you? Pish tosh. I love reading reccies! I'm sure Simon does too!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Phew!

I'll have to post a few more at some point. Alost did under the recommendations title but i chickened out at the last minute...

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments "I'll have to post a few more at some point. Alost did under the recommendations title but i chickened out at the last minute... "

Surely you aren't afraid of me......

I thought the recommendations section would go better than it has - perhaps everyone is still a bit shy.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I had it all typed out an everything and then just cancelled it. I'm scared of virtual rejection... You know i'm writing it and as i write it i realise how daft it is.

Time to face my fears! Once I get home I will post a recommendation. Thats my challenge for the weekend, step out of my comfort zone a little

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good on you, Judith! Before you know it, you'll be taking up public speaking!

Seriously, though. We are a kind bunch in here.

I'M the same Judith, posting a few one liners is not too bad but not plucked up courage to post a recommendation yet.
My spelling is so very bad that when I have posted I sit & worry that I will look like a fool.
This on-line thing has a lot to answer for!

message 10: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 75 comments I was like that on the Amazon forum at the start as the books I read are very easy going generally, chick lit, fantasy, crime and dare I say it vampires. I was worried that the books would be laughed at for not being literary enough. The good thing about a book forum is you do get all sorts of people with all sorts of different tastes.
I think this really adds to my own reading as I have read a few books I wouldn't have bothered with before.
One thing I have found out in general is that most readers get on simply because they all love reading regardless of the books content.

I'm the same for grammar either an excess or an absence

I am pleased to hear it's not just me & the same as with you Judith either too much or too little!
I do think you are right in saying Lisa that we all like to go on these forums because we like to read & it really doesn't matter what we read it's just the reading that matters.
I have also read different types of book Since getting my Kindle, I admit that my Husband wanted me to have one for ages & I always refused saying I prefered books & wouldn't use a kindle, how wrong I was. I gave into pressure from my hubby & now I am addicted to Kindle & the 2 forums I go on which in turn means I am making new friends to chat about books with. So all that is left is to get more confident on the forums & enjoy meeting other like minded people. The nicest thing is how lovely & friendly everyone is, it really helps you to give it a go when everyone is so nice.
Best foot forward girls!!

Lets not get ahead of ourselves now, public speaking is a definite no no! But i did post my recommendation :o)

message 14: by Frank (new)

Frank Hood | 5 comments Public speaking! LOL. I remember reading someone's survey a few years ago that noted that public speaking was the highest ranking fear among respondents. DEATH was number 2! Methinks our priorities are misplaced.

Yes i think so. Mother in laws should be 1st then public speaking and death 3rd...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I love my mum-in-law. She helped me win a signed, first edition, hardcover copy of Steady Past Your Granny's which one day soon is going to be priceless. Dont worry, Phil. I may have Sotheby's evaluate it but I'll never sell.

message 17: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments I'm part of the science fiction and fantasy group, but I'm finding it hard to keep up with that and the amazon.co.uk fora and now this has come along and usurped it.

message 18: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I think that's the main problem - time. I am a member of a gardening forum. I used to belong to 3 vegetable gardening groups and to 3 chicken-keepers' groups too. Eventually, you stay where you feel at home. I'm down to one gardening and 2 Kindle or else I'd have no time to grow vegetables, keep chickens and read. More comfortable here though.

If they come up with a reasonable price, I have a few more they could have ;-)

I wonder where dying whilst speaking in public might come?

Audrey (Seaholly) | 219 comments Nope I'm not a member of any other good read groups. Up until I got my kindle I had never even looked at a forum.Took me all my time to post on the amazon threads but after a while It got quite comfortable. I relly like this group now that I am starting to find my way round it. Was a really good idea

Hi Audrey, just the same as you, never been on any forum till I got my kindle ( well except Springwatch & its a lot easier when you are confident about the subject) It was also the first review I had put on Amazon when I reviewed In The Blood, I always think I will look foolish but on here everyone is so friendly & it really is nice to have a chat with them all.
Have you read In The Blood? what did you think? I can't wait to see what the next book is either. Hope to chat again soon
Anita.

Audrey (Seaholly) | 219 comments @anita Hi Almost finishedin the blood and really enjoying it so much so that I have recommended it to friends.Hope the next choice is as good.

Anita | 3313 comments Noticed you are reading Word to the Wise, have looked at it a few times myself but not downloaded it yet. It's one of those books that gets your attention & when you finaly get round to reading it turns out to be really really great, the last book I did that with was Johnathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke ( I think I should put in one of those link things in here but haven't a clue how to go about it, sorry)
& that is now in my top 10.
Glad you enjoyed ITB I like to find a book that is so good that you cant put it down.
Just talked myself into Word to The Wise.

Anita | 3313 comments I also downloaded The Doner ( link kindly provided by Audry, see above) but not started it yet & Words to The Wise does seem to have some good reviews, will let you know.

I am a member of a few groups here on Goodreads: The Indie Book Collective, Goodreads Authors/Readers Group, and Blood Series & More: Fans of Author T. Lynne Tolles Group, the last because we followed each other here from Amazon. However, as I am not really a very social animal I tend to mainly lurk and read here and on Amazon more than I post comments.

message 30: by Editio (new)

Editio (editiomedia) | 5 comments I definitely belong to other groups. What Jud said is true; you can get overwhelmed by a lot of discussions to keep up with. I like belonging to several groups because I feel like I learn more that way. Since I run a blog to help self-published authors, I need and love knowing what people are talking about and what help they need. Knowing what’s going on makes me do my job better and helps me to get to know people better. I suggest you find a genre you really like and join a group that reads those sorts of books. That way you get new recommendations and can share the books you love with others. Just a thought.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Editio as you (oops!) triple posted, I deleted the second two posts. I'm sure you don't mind. Wouldn't want it to look as though you were spamming the group!

Oh yes thank you for that. I'm at a coffee shop and my internet was being wonky. Thank you for catching that. How embarrassing.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No worries. We've all experienced wonky Internet!

message 34: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments I joined the Mystery, Crime & Thriller Group. It's my genre after all - how could I not? I don't know anyone there yet though and they don't know about me or my work. I need more time to interact. Although I just finished reading Val McDermid's, A Place of Execution which they had as a group read last month, so I think I'll add my thoughts to that discussion.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You'll be a valued member over there in no time, Steve. Just don't forget us! We'd miss you!

message 36: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 41 comments I'm in Creative Reviews, and it's a great group - really friendly and helpful. It's a nice mix of authors and readers and reviewers, and they're a really good laugh.

Agree re too many conversations though! I tend to lurk mainly in one group or another and then just dip into the others in passing, according to what catches my eye under "Updates"!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I spend too much time on here to join another group i'd never get any work done. Just had a wee burst of concentration there and thought i was doing really well but no all i've done is go from 109 issues to deal with to 96...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments That's progress! You've earned chocolate.

message 39: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Make that 93!! woop woop i'm on a roll, forget the chocolate I'm having rum!! or maybe both...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I also has a bottle of Cuban chocolate liquor. Shhhhh

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Aw! I wish i was at your house!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments For you, I'd open the bottle and even make ice!

...I know I have recipe round here somewhere.....

message 44: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments My notifications have suddenly leapt to over 30 every time I open up Goodreads. Sometimes it's ok and there's only a few that I'm interested in, but sometimes I end up opening ten or fifteen windows, just to catch up on all the fun and freaky madness. I'm in Creative Reviews and Writers & Readers, mainly, plus a few others that I tend to just lurk around. Great fun!

message 45: by Tom (new)

Tom Lichtenberg I'm in the Atheist Book Club. We're still one of the last minorities in America that could never be elected to High Office. Sometimes the discussions there get a bit shrill but for the most part they're a bunch of smart and interesting people.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hanks, Tom. That sounds an interesting group. I'll have a look!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I was going to join the apathy group but I couldn't be bothered.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm going to join the procrastinators group. Later.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments They have just started a pessimists group. I would join that but I bet it will be rubbish!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The optimist's group is half full now.
