The Book Monsters discussion

This marks our first reading challenge. I plan on awarding those who finish in the top places some prizes when it ends. So, I want to know what kind of challenge would you guys like? Easy, a little more challenges, a bit more open.. very defined.

Share here some themes and ideas that you would like to see. Maybe you are in some year long challenges that you would like translated into the tasks here. I plan on starting this one at the beginning of August so start brainstorming!

Kristen, you know I am down for any challenge :) I always like a bit of a tricky challenge, but since the Wild Things challenge is my main focus, I personally would like one that I can easily use books from that challenge on this one.

I am pretty open to any themes or sub genres. Since dystopia novels seem to be really intense of late that night be a fun place to go. Also various issue facing teen and how they are dealt with in different books could be interesting especially in discussing from multiple readers points of view.

DYSTOPIAN. Kristen, you know how I feel about dystopian. We could always do it with a focus on the "original" ones. The Giver... The Uglies... etc.

My book club read The Giver like 10 years ago. I have to admit I never finished it. I loved the Uglies series. SW is brilliant! Of course the big dystopian one seems to be Hunger Games which is an excellent series.

I agree! I was thinking something along the lines so far as:

Read the month's letters in book titles.
And then themed other tasks based on holidays during that month. What do you guys think? Maybe I can tag on genre bonuses for stretching your reading to different genres.

That could be fun, though AUGUST would be a lot of books! HEHEHE :) But I love things like that. I've seen doing the seasons, the ABC is always popular, but I think it could be fun to really mix it up. I look forward to trying out some challenges to get me through my reading piles!

mm I will have to add that in. Maybe a "get your piles down" section. :)

Alright, Kate and I have been discussing and have decided on a basic outline.

First off, we will be doing a monthly book challenge and it will have a few different parts including a winner's task, where the winner of the previous month will come up with a task. So, I will have a post up soon for August's challenge. I'm so excited! :)

I just finished Delirium- it was great. I honestly don't know of many dystopian books ( I have read all the ones I know of....)

Amanda, have you read Hunger Games yet? Very dystopian, very awesome. Right now there are a lot of dystopians out, plus there are a bunch of older dytopians too. The Giver is an older one Matched is a new one and if you liked Delirium you might check Matched out too. Also Maze Runner by James Dashner is a very interesting dystopian novel trilogy.

I think the months challenge is a great idea, and then maybe connecting it to a genre, such as dystopian. however that could pose as problematic, but we could work around it!

It will change every month, just thought it'd be interesting to see what everyone is reading in a certain genre and how they are enjoying it. :)

I like the idea of it changing every month. There's something fun in mixing it up. So in August it could be read certain genres, but in September it could be read the seasons. Totally different!

I do like the idea of challenges that help me burn through this massive pile of nearly 300 books, but I also like the idea of challenges that get me reading something I wouldn't normally read. I've found some great books that way! :)

I look forward to seeing what we get! Maybe we could try for something simple in August to get things rolling?

BTW Were you thinking of reading challenges that have us reading a zillion books? Those are hard. But fun. I was in one a couple years ago that involved nine books a month. Whew, I tried hard. Some of the challenges were TOUGH to get through. But nine books is just tough anyway! :) But I read a lot! HEHE

I agree with Lady Ozma! It would be nice to have something different every month or every other month depending on the amount of books.

Lol. I put August's up. So we'll see how it goes and we can change it up next month or follow the same type of theme. :)

I didn't realize Maze Runner was Dystopian - I will have to check that out!

I have read the Hunger Games- I LOVE that series!
