Sara W (sarawesq) | 2153 comments Okay everyone, it's that time of the month - time to nominate! Anyone who would like to nominate ONE book may do so in this thread.

The theme this month is non-fiction (any country, any time period). In honor of the election, I thought we could include American "royalty" and expand the nominations this month to include American politicians and/or their wives (Ben Franklin, John and Abigail Adams, George Washington, etc. - you get the idea). Feel free to veto this idea if you’d like (or simply nominate a European royalty book like normal – I’m not trying to force American history on anyone!). Regardless, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get into some non-fiction!

Please try to check amazon or some other site to make sure the book is easily available - the last thing we want is to nominate some great book that no one can get! If you nominate more than ONE book, only the first book listed will make it into the voting thread (so save additional books for the next months!).

Feel free to nominate one book of your choice in this thread until September 30th, 9pm Eastern.

At around that time, I'll make a voting thread and list all the nominated books, and people can vote for one book off of that list until October 4th around 9pm Eastern. Discussion can start on October 15th.

Catherine Delors (catherinedelors) | 36 comments Great idea, Sara, about switching to non-fiction and American royalty. I nominate "The Hemingses of Monticello" by Annette Gordon-Reed. I hear nothing but the highest praise for it.

Sara W (sarawesq) | 2153 comments Awesome choices so far! I added them to the nominating shelf. I'm still trying to decide on what to nominate, but I'll post it by tomorrow.

Sara W (sarawesq) | 2153 comments I'm going to nominate Redcoats and Rebels: The American Revolution Through British Eyes by Christopher Hibbert. It seems like a good mix between English royalty/aristocacy and American "royalty".

Laura I would like to nominate:
Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles
by Margaret George

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 378 comments Is that non-fiction or fiction? It sounds interesting, but I didn't think Margaret George wrote non-fiction. Does she?

Sara W (sarawesq) | 2153 comments Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles by Margaret George does appear to be a novel. It would fit in nicely with next month's theme however, so I can definitely carry it over for you Laura. As it is, voting is scheduled to end tomorrow, so it's better to save this book for next month when it can be listed right when the voting begins.

Boogoalo I vote for anything that is non-fiction...that reads like a novel. I'd love to talk to everyone about what makes for good non-fiction. (I'm writing a non-fiction book right now and good use some pointers!)

Love this group already!
