Sarah Yoffa (webbiegrrlwriter) | 501 comments I'm not entirely sure if this is within the group's purview or not so some please correct me (gently!) if I'm asking for something this group doesn't do. I'm in the process of editing several books in a series. I'll be self-publishing them via Smashwords, starting around the end of this year (Dec-2011). I think. Depends on how quickly the edits go, which in turn depends on how much feedback I can get while I edit.

To facilitate my process, I've uploaded my first chapters to the HarperCollins writers' community site, Authonomy, where book content is "protected" against search engines indexing and yet readers can access books -- FREE -- and read and comment on them. Oh and we authors get lots of feedback, hopefully lots of great feedback :) There's a bit of a popularity contest going on at Authonomy so there's a lot of spamming of requests for reads or "shelves" (HC ranks books by how many shelves they have been stored on and/or for how long they've been on those shelves which makes the spamming at the end of every month really annoying).

I'm decidedly NOT participating in any of that. I have links and such on my series blog here:

http://phoenicianseries.blogspot.com/...

If anyone is willing to risk the spam (or tick the "accept messages from my friends only box) I would love any/all feedback I can get on these chapters as i upload them. I'll probably upload at least 1/3 or maybe 1/2 the book before I stop and just concentrate on finishing the edits. I don't want to give the whole book away--or not while it's in process--but I will definitely offer "thank you" coupons to anyone who participates in my editing process and helps me get this book "ready for prime time."

It's free to join Authonomy. You just need to give HC your email address and choose a password. Again, please tell me if this whole concept is outside the scope of this group's ideas about authors requesting reviews of books, given that this book is not completed nor for sale (yet). I'm new here and simply don't know. I'm not trying to pull anything, I swear! :)

Sarah Yoffa (webbiegrrlwriter) | 501 comments Oh yeah, I should mention/acknowledge, I am publishing the science fiction genre under a pseudonum, Marjorie "Friday" Baldwin and am PURPOSELY trying to maintain the illusion amongst the general public that Friday and Webbiegrrl are not one and the same. I am also never going to lie if asked directly. It's a marketing strategy and is very common in the publishing industry due to how sales reporting is handled in the industry.

Cassie McCown (cassie629) | 713 comments I just wanted to let everyone know that I did sign up for Authonomy to help Sarah...erm...Friday... ;-)...with her book. So far, I like the process!! It is kinda neat to be able to comment on each chapter as a work in progress, so I get to be a little nit-picky...but I am able to really point out specific things that I really like and are really working for the story.

And, so far, I am REALLY liking her story! :-)

Just so you guys know b/c when I first read all this, I was intimidated! It's really an easy process and an interesting way to communicate with the writers!

It might also be something some of the writers want to take part in to get more feedback on your work???

Sarah Yoffa (webbiegrrlwriter) | 501 comments Thanks so much for the comment here, Cassie--I was coming by to post about your comment (SanityEludesMe) because you did such a great job!! I love that you commented chapter by chapter. So many Autho members collect up their feedback into one long comment and, while that's okay, that's nowhere near as useful for me as an author, while still developing the story.

The direct link to my book's page is here:

As for the Friday / Sarah thing, please refer to me as Friday or Marjorie on the Authonomy site, but here on Goodreads, behind this group's "wall" I'm just me, Sarah, The Webbiegrrl Writer :)

At Authonomy, however, I am actually active under BOTH names and would very much appreciate keeping any/all Conditioned Response discussions attributed to Marjorie "Friday" Baldwin. I know this double name business is going to fall apart at somet point, but let's see how long I can carry it off, shall we? :)

Thanks (and esp thanks again to Cassie; you really made my day letting me know I succeeded at highlighting specifically what I had set out to make you notice...plus, of course, that you liked it :-)))
