Gabrielle I just ordered this book is it worth my time????

Torie I don't want to disappoint you, but since you're asking, I'll give my personal opinion.
Total waste of time.
I absolutely LOVED the first book, "A Wrinkle in Time," so, naturally, I sought out the sequel, excited to see what happens next. I know that a lot of people love all 5 books in the series, but I read 1, 2 & 3, then stopped, because I didn't want to keep wasting my time. 2 & 3 were awful. 3 was only slightly better than 2.
Like I said, though, that's just my personal opinion.

Hannah this book might take some time to understand and maybe confusing but if u finish it and read the other books it'll have some sense to it. But it is not worthless and i liked it hope u do 2

Dhfan4life All I'll say is that you would have to really be open to reading YA sci-fi reads. Cause from what I can remember this series got pretty heavily involved in that direction. But I did find it interesting for a time.

Mary I love all the the Madeline L'Engle books. My favorite in this series was "Many Waters."

I liked this second book better than the first. Progo is still one of my favorite L'Engle characters. And since the setting for this one is much closer to home for the Murrys, I liked exploring their environment, even in the "reversed mirror" way that was done.

Chelsea Clifton I.LOVED.THIS.BOOK. I love all of the series, even the very last one with Penny as the main character is something I should have read before. Many Waters is my favorite.

If you love the first one for the Characters as well as the story, then you have a good shot at liking this one.

Oh I loved Many Waters as well Mary. I ate that book up in a matter of days. My kind of sci-fi action.

Nicole D. It is a really good book. But you might want to read a A Wrinkle in Time first. It is IMO the best of the series.

Gabrielle i really loved the first one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's my favorite too! Loved it! Loved all of them.

Elisabeth Wheatley No. This isn't a good book. It's an AWESOME book!

I second that! Especially her Time Quintet! They're the only books I've read twice.

Rachael Tomlinson This series is awesome! I'm in middle school and I have read them 3 times already. There are several different levels of understanding you can read them at and they are very engaging. If you read them too fast, however, you can get kind of lost. I would definitely recommend it.

Victoria Madeline L'Engle was a wonderful writer and a lovely human being. I had the great pleasure of sharing a retreat with her a couple of decades ago. This year is the 50th anniversary of the publication of A Wrinkle in Time and I will be re-reading the series yet again to celebrate. All of them are excellent. I'm sorry they were not to Torie's taste. I might recommend waiting a few years and trying again. I'm 64, so I got to read all the books as they came out and re-read them as the series lengthened. It's not fashionable lately, but the author was a deeply spiritual woman and her faith shines through her work. I love them and I enjoy them each time I read them again.

Janelle Mary wrote: "I love all the the Madeline L'Engle books. My favorite in this series was "Many Waters.""

I completely agree!!!

Janelle A Wind in the Door and Swiftly Tilting Planet are a little more esoteric and overtly spiritual in a way than A Wrinkle in Time and Many Waters. The plots of both Wrinkle and Waters are more straightforward and easier to follow. I can completely understand the two middle books in the series not being for everyone. But if you liked Wrinkle, even if you didn't care for Swiftly Titling Planet and Wind in the Door, I would absolutely recommend Many Waters, it is my favorite of the quintet.

Madeleine L'Engle is my favorite author and close to my heart. I have been collecting and reading everything I could get my hands on by her for 20 years. She has had as much to do with shaping my worldview and my faith as my parents. She is truly a treasure.

I totally agree. Almost half of the book consists of two to four characters arguing.

"Should I?"
"Yes."
"But what if...?"
"Just do it."
"No, he's wrong, don't do it."
"I'm scared."

And on and on and on. I almost literally screamed.

I felt like L'Engle had this amazing point having to do with angels and stars and mitochondria... but she never told us what it was. Super boring.

Hanna I actually thought that it was a really good book but i think "A wrinkle in time" was a lot better.

I third that!! I love all of her books!!

Betsy Love all of Le'Engle's books. A Swiftly Tilting Planet just about saved my life when I left my abusive ex-husband. Saying the St. Patricks rune gave me courage to face what appeared to be an impossible situation.

Vanessa No. Terrible read. Took me ages to get through it.

Julie A Wrinkle in Time is the best of the series, but this one and A Swiftly Tilting Planet are pretty good. You have to like YA Sci Fi

Betsy A Swiftly Tilting Planet was kid's novel that saved my soul. Patrick's Breast Plate was a poem whose stanza's opened every chapter in this book. When I was terrified that my ex would come barging through the door this was poem that kept me sane.

Amy I seriously love this book.

Scott I loved all of the first three books. (Many Waters was awful.) If you like science and mythology it is worth reading, for sure.

Jessie It's pretty good, but I liked A Wrinkle in Time better. I couldn't get through Many Waters. I loved A Swiftly Tilting Planet. I think it's the best.

Betsy I'll second your vote on A Swiftly Tilting Planet!

Crystal Wang It's OK... the first book was much better, and the third is my absolute favorite; I'd say A Wind in the Door misses the mark by a bit. I'd probably give it somewhere between 2.5 and 3.

Fraser Coltman You've had plenty of feedback both ways. What I love about this series is the way that L'Engle worked to harmonize scientific thought with Christian faith. She was an avid reader of the theories of quantum physics and of the Bible, and she believed that the views could be stand side by side. I don't know if I always agree with her, but I respect her conviction and her creative expression of it.

This book, like all of hers, is primarily a story of love battling and conquering hate, despite the latter's persistent and considerable power. I hope you enjoy it!
