I read this when I was in my early teens, probably one of the first books I picked up. Cried my eyes out.

This book is really disturbing.. I was so shocked and still can't accept the way the characters lived their lives.

dont watch the movie it is way off this is one of my favorite book i love vc andrews

I devoured these books in high school. She was one of my fave authors growing up. Not a fan of the new reads seeing how that are based off of notes and unfinished writings of hers after her death.

the new ones arnt the best some are like the ones befor 08 but now they are getting to modern like the vampire one she would not write vampire books i just know it

This was probably one of the first books I ever bought, not wanting to simply borrow it from the library, I had to posses it so I could read it over and over. I would have been about 12. And I bought every one of those first few series, a collection I held on to until I was married and expecting my first child. We were moving and sacrifices had to be made. VC Andrews factors huge into my early love of reading.

I loved this book when I was in junior high. I had to read all of her books when I was younger. I started to read some of the newer ones last summer. They aren't as good, but I still enjoy them.

I wish that I could get my daughter to read this one.

I would still read this book over. This is a timeless book, I loved the whole series.

This series was the beginning of my love for a good story that continues book to book.

Disturbing, but I liked it.

I have to say that this series is what began my love for books! I've read the series three times! :) I managed to get my daughter to them and she too loves the series.

The movie was good... but of course we all know "the book is always better".

I think I read this book too early. I was a little immature. I liked the book, but Chris....geez....

I keep looking for this book when I go to garage sales and Goodwill so that my daughter can enjoy what I read so long ago. I know I'll come across it again eventually.

I read this book when I was about 15 or 16 and I loved it. It opened my mind a lot and I ended up accepting pretty well the way they lived and I think I'd accept a situation like that in real life. Also, I love Chris because it takes courage to accept who you are and who you love. And that's what matter in the end, because if you don't accept yourself, who will? And how could you be happy?

It will always be one of my favourites books!

One of my favorites also,the movie was terrible in my opinion.

I agree - my son is 10 and I wasn't much older than him when I read it the first time - no way I would allow him to read this until he's in his 20's :)

I remember getting this book from the library when I was 12 and being captivated! It was so different from anything else I had ever read (obviously only 12 yrs old...) and I read it cover to cover in one sitting, holed up in my bedroom. I think this book is truly the reason I got hooked on reading.

I read this one in the 6th grade. My step sister was reading these and I was fascinated, so we got the whole series and I reread them constantly for a few years :)

I passed the young adult books by junior high, was a pretty advanced reading level. They were too young for me so I mainly started with adult books only.

I would think it depends on the age & maturity of the kid. I read this series when I was 14, my mother let me borrow it from her. Didn't damage me any. I would let my daughter read it if I still had it of course her being 19 yrs old, she can read whatever she wants to read anyway.

I also devoured these books in high school. The Heaven and Ruby series were my favorites. Haven't read any of the new stuff.

I agree, loved these in jr. high and high school, (the 80's) but not so much any more. Not worth my spare time!

I read this book when I was in my early teens and than I started to collect the whole collection, I stopped when I got to 20 some books. I feel that the book was disturbing and even though I don't think it's right, I could see how the sister and brother did what they did.

i got this book as a christmas present...i love the twist of the story...it is something that you would never want to happen to you.. V.C. Andrews has a unique style in writing, even her other books.BUt sometimes i feel bad for the characters in her book...

The movie did not do justice to the book.I loved the Dollanger(?) series,the rest just became non appealing.

I can't remember how I got hold of this book (maybe from a friend), I was about 14 at the time, but if my mum had known what they were about they would have been thrown in the fire (to this day I don't think she knows!) I still can't believe I actually read them- I was always appalled at the attraction between brother and sister.

I read this book some 20 years ago and went on to read all of Andrews books and I loved them all, however now that I am a mum i just can't read them now

I think what draws young adults (and by that I mean pre/early teens) in is the strange relationships. It was like a train wreck watching the sister and brother become involved with each other that way. I couldn't stop reading.

The sister/brother thing wasn't nearly as creepy as the mother. Or even the mother/son. The sister/brother incest seemed almost inevitable after a while.

This book was very terrifying for me... I think that it is really messed up and made me so mad at the mother. I suggest you read the rest of the series if you liked it... it gets weirder.

That was one of the most horrifying book I ever read. I tried to read more in the series but it was getting more bizarre I just couldn't continue.

I read this series when I was in high school, I found them in a box, and I ended up loving them. My favorite was the "Heaven" series the most though. And yes, these are very disturbing books, but they are full of supense, definite page turners.

I too read this series many years ago and of course her other "original" works such as the Heaven series. I can't help thinking Virginia Andrews had a dark side and her books were sometimes shocking in the tragedies that occurred. Nevertheless, compulsive reading at the time!

I read this series as a young adult(guess I'm dating myself!), and found it to be a disturbing, but a compelling series.I just had to know what happened next. And generally what happened next made me shudder......and keep reading.

This was my forst series I read as a teen..also dating myself! They were great! Kept me out of trouble..because all I wanted to do was read!

Its amazing to know that others have read VC Andrews in their teens too. I also read this saga, plus the Dawn saga plus Heaven saga, all of them very disturbing (rapes, incest, cheating) but somehow i couldnt stop reading them! My favorite one was Heaven, only because i fell in love with Troy ***sighs***

I agree, I liked Troy as well :)

I was so enthrawled,& discusted with this book. Yet I could not put it down. The bigger villians were Malcom and Olivia. First he rapes Alica,(Christopher and Corrins mother.) Remember that was his fathers new bride, then she ends up pregnant with his child Corrine, and the when she and Christopher fell in love they said nothing about how much worse their sin was. Yet they both were nothing but religous hypocrates.

i love this book and the series. it is one of the first books i ever read i read it in grade 8 or 9. it opened my eyes to the way some people are and live. i love vc andrews she is one of my favourite authors i have read alot of her books and love them all but this is my favourite book by her.

I remember buying this book then the rest of the series,years ago and then loaning them to my Grandmother..lol
