Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments We had a close vote for the September book, with The Dragonbone Chair winning by two votes over The Once and Future King.

Does the group want to have a run off poll? Place opinions here.

Mach | 116 comments I don't think so most of the people that vote don't even participate in the discussion anyway.
If you are going to have a runoff poll don't send emails to people, that way the regulars will get to decide what the group reads.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I agree about not sending the emails. If folks aren't checking the topics, they're not likely to discuss.

Danna poll? where? I am running

message 5: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments I don't automatically get e-mails for posts (because I specifically configure my GoodReads account NOT to spam me). I'd rather wander aimlessly through my groups at various times throughout the day for serendipitous discussion discoveries. :)

I'm also ambivalent about a run-off re-poll. I may or may not read either of those two books, it depends on how far I get through my August book club to read pile.

Mach | 116 comments No point in having another poll. The book i nominated won so my judgment might be slightly partial though:)

There is a differance between notifications and sending mail to a persons inbox.

Furthermore, there is also a difference between the emails Goodreads sends if you have your preferences set to email you about new posts in a given group and the message a moderator can broadcast to the whole group...which is different yet again from the message one is prompted to send (or not) when one posts a new poll.

I am ambivalent about the run-off poll in this case. If it were a close call between books I'm interested in, (or one I am/one I am not) I might feel differently. But as I'm not sure I'll be able to read and discuss either of these titles, I wouldn't vote in any run-off between them anyhow, for fairness's sake.

Kara (sterlink) *shrug* ...personally don't want to read either.

LOL.

It looks like most are content to let it be. So guess I will. I probably wouldn't have read either without the group vote, but they sound worth a try. And Dragonbone is available for my Nook, which is a plus.

Michelle Stockard Miller (michelleamiller) | 43 comments Darn! I already have Once and Future King on the way form Paperback Swap. Oh, well. I wanted the book anyway. Maybe I'll read it instead.

There ya go! An independent thinker. :)

message 14: by Hans (new)

Hans (moonshiry) Nah im good with the Dragonbone

message 15: by Kara (new)

Kara (sterlink) I OWN Dragonbone, have for a year. Decided to try it after I gave up on Otherworld, decided I didn't liked Tad Williams, and then was somehow convinced from a friend that he wrote good fantasy... with story-lines I would enjoy (versus the sci-fi stuff).

Whelllp, I haven't made it past Chapter 2, so I can't really say for sure.

Ben (benkaboo) I think a runoff poll would give people who didn't select either of the top two books an opportunity to reallocate their vote (kind of like a preferential voting system).

I'm having a great time as a member of this club so whichever way you decide I'm not going to be too bothered (I'd happily read either choice).

message 17: by John (new)

John Nellis Ive read Dragon Bone Chair and liked it.
I've read some of Once and Future King in High School many, many years ago. I don't remember a whole lot about it. I know it wasn't my favorite rendition of Arthur.

message 18: by Jeanette (new)

Jeanette I won't be reading either I'm afraid. So I don't really care either way ;)

message 19: by Sen Hua (last edited Aug 02, 2011 06:01AM) (new)

Sen Hua I think Dragon Bone Chair will be ok.
Tad Williams is a good writer anyway..

message 20: by Jack (new)

Jack Navarath (navarath) The Dragon Bone Chair is a really great book. However, I have to warn people, you might find it very very slow and dry the first half. But it picks up!

message 21: by Chase (new)

Chase I'd like a reason to push through The Dragon Bone Chair, like Seth said, it's a bit dry in the beginning, but I'm a fan of Tad Williams, so I'd like to finish it.
