We are going to have one thread for each book as now Goodreads has made a spoiler tag that you can use to put before anything that is a spoiler. Use your discretion as to what would be a pretty big spoiler and label it. Please put up to what page the spoiler is for.

I'm not very far into the book (I'm in the process of planning my wedding in September!!), but I find the "new" words in Elder chapters very distracting. There's too many! Couldn't we just stick to universe instead of "uni", and what's this Sol-Earth, etc. stuff? Is this bothering anyone else?

Laura, I just finished and I really enjoyed the made up words, especially frexing and chutz. However, I am doing a buddy read and the person I'm reading the book with hated them so you're not alone.

Yeah I loved them too... I actually got to tweet Beth Revis about the made up words. They reminded me a lot of the word evolution that was present in the show Firefly so I really enjoyed it.

The reason it didn't bother me was because over the course of the years, languages change. And I am a language nerd. But I can see how it can be distracting.

Stick with it! It is worth it!

Maybe it's because I usually read it before bed and by that time I'm so exhausted I don't feel like thinking? Lol... I make it a point not to stop reading a book, and I actually enjoy the storyline, it was just those words. Thank you girls for your input!

The made up words drove me crazy. Good book in spite of it though

I just got this book and so far I have liked it. The made up language actually reminds me of the show Farscape.

The made up words aren't really annoying me. I agree with Julia, language is constantly evolving and new words are always being made up. Think of all of the new words that have been recently added in the dictionary!

I'm about halfway through this book. It's definitely keeping my interest but I'm starting to wonder how it could possibly be a part of a trilogy.

The beginning is very slow for me and I am having trouble keeping interested in the book, but I like the whole premises of an almost feudalistic government on a space ship.

Just finished the book. Overall I really liked it, but it was definitely different than what I was expecting.

(view spoiler)[I was shocked when Harley died! I really thought that Elder was dreaming. Wasn't expecting that. Elder and Amy didn't seem to grieve though. I get that the painting for Amy gave her some closure...but still.

Also, if you live on a ship with a certain number of people how do you not notice that there is a new person (Orion)? Orion seemed like such a good guy and like he was curious himself about Earth and different things. I couldn't believe how devious he was, and then killing Eldest!

The ending was full of lots of twists and turns! Like Elder unplugging Amy?!?! I'm surprised that he never said anything about feeling guilty (when we were reading his chapters).

I'm halfway through and I think it's great. The made-up words aren't bothering me at all and for the most part I'm able to figure which words they are replacing, except for brilly. I'm thinking that brilly=cool? Does anyone know?

(view spoiler)[I know that the Doc says Amy can't be frozen again because it could kill her, but I'm hoping that he can find a way around that and that Amy and Elder can be frozen together at the end. I think it'd be really awesome if the series could be continued on Centauri-Earth instead of being stuck in the ship for entire series. (hide spoiler)]

I have almost finished and I can't wait to find out if my predictions are correct or not.

I finished the story and it was excellent. My predictions were slightly off but I have never been good at guessing what will happen.

That makes sense! You could be right.

This was the second time I read this book for the 2015 reading challenge yay! I enjoyed this book as much as the first time and even forgot some of the 'twists' that happen. This is a cute and fun read that has great qualities of sci-fi and post apocalyptic fiction without the love triangles! I enjoyed the fact that while a love interest is hinted at and starts to be developed the characters have other important things to worry about. Overall fun read that will make YA and sci-fi fans happy.
