We are going to have one thread for each book as now Goodreads has made a spoiler tag that you can use to put before anything that is a spoiler. Use your discretion as to what would be a pretty big spoiler and label it. Please put up to what page the spoiler is for.

To create the tag simply do this:

< spoiler> Blah blah blah spoilery stuff < /spoiler>

*Take out the spaces in both of the spoiler tag.

It will look like this:

Laura (liacobet) I'm not very far into the book (I'm in the process of planning my wedding in September!!), but I find the "new" words in Elder chapters very distracting. There's too many! Couldn't we just stick to universe instead of "uni", and what's this Sol-Earth, etc. stuff? Is this bothering anyone else?

message 3: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Laura, I just finished and I really enjoyed the made up words, especially frexing and chutz. However, I am doing a buddy read and the person I'm reading the book with hated them so you're not alone.

message 4: by Julia (new)

Julia (bambbles) | 43 comments Yeah I loved them too... I actually got to tweet Beth Revis about the made up words. They reminded me a lot of the word evolution that was present in the show Firefly so I really enjoyed it.

The reason it didn't bother me was because over the course of the years, languages change. And I am a language nerd. But I can see how it can be distracting.

Stick with it! It is worth it!

Laura (liacobet) Maybe it's because I usually read it before bed and by that time I'm so exhausted I don't feel like thinking? Lol... I make it a point not to stop reading a book, and I actually enjoy the storyline, it was just those words. Thank you girls for your input!

Nicki (ophia) | 85 comments The made up words drove me crazy. Good book in spite of it though

message 7: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments I just got this book and so far I have liked it. The made up language actually reminds me of the show Farscape.

message 8: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments The made up words aren't really annoying me. I agree with Julia, language is constantly evolving and new words are always being made up. Think of all of the new words that have been recently added in the dictionary!

I'm about halfway through this book. It's definitely keeping my interest but I'm starting to wonder how it could possibly be a part of a trilogy.

message 9: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments The beginning is very slow for me and I am having trouble keeping interested in the book, but I like the whole premises of an almost feudalistic government on a space ship.

message 10: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments Just finished the book. Overall I really liked it, but it was definitely different than what I was expecting.

Spoilers ahead--

Kayla | 604 comments I'm halfway through and I think it's great. The made-up words aren't bothering me at all and for the most part I'm able to figure which words they are replacing, except for brilly. I'm thinking that brilly=cool? Does anyone know?

message 12: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments I have almost finished and I can't wait to find out if my predictions are correct or not.

message 13: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments I finished the story and it was excellent. My predictions were slightly off but I have never been good at guessing what will happen.

message 14: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments Kayla, I had assumed that brilly = brillant. I could be wrong though!

That makes sense! You could be right.

message 16: by Haley (new)

Haley (xbibliobibulix) | 42 comments This was the second time I read this book for the 2015 reading challenge yay! I enjoyed this book as much as the first time and even forgot some of the 'twists' that happen. This is a cute and fun read that has great qualities of sci-fi and post apocalyptic fiction without the love triangles! I enjoyed the fact that while a love interest is hinted at and starts to be developed the characters have other important things to worry about. Overall fun read that will make YA and sci-fi fans happy.
