On Monday, July 18th, the official word came down: Borders hadn't found a buyer with a going-concern bid, so the group of liquidators that had put in a bid would be taking over to close out the stores beginning that Friday. Despite all the bad management and questionable decisions that had taken place over the last six or seven (or maybe eight) years, I couldn't help but remember what had made it such a great bookstore and such a great company to work for, once upon a time.

The day after the liquidation was announced, the store was swamped. Most people were nice, and nearly everyone was buying.
