S. Patrick (spm0602) | 2 comments Hello all! New to the site and the group. Read almost everything, but lately my tastes have focused on mystery/thrillers/suspense. Just finished with a classic, John D. MacDonald's The Deep Blue Goodbye. Even though it's over forty years old it stands the test of time. Looking for recommendations for summer reading, as I'm almost done with a draft of my second novel and I need a break. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

Jan C (woeisme) | 39173 comments I Liked John D. MacDonald years ago and tried him again in the last couple of years but I had just moved past him, I guess. Liked him about 20-30 years ago, though. Good if you haven't read him before, though.

You'll find plenty of suggestions here. Personally, I like Ian Rankin and we recently had a group read involving Raymond Chandler who I liked years ago and I still like.

Another I still like is Georges Simenon.

But, you'll find we're all over the map here.

aprilla Hi Patrick... oldies but goodies huh?
I listened to Dolores Claiborn by Stephen King lately and thought it was excellent and very well narrated.... a treat if you haven't already read it. Regardless, you'll get too many recommendations here :)

Hi Patrick, thanks for joining us. I recently read my first Perry Mason book, and it was short and sweet and fun. Jan C is right, we are all over the map, so poke through the threads and see what you come up with. The "Currently Reading/Just Finished" thread is a good place to start.

Welcome Patrick. I'm always finding great new authors through recommendations here.

I have particularly enjoyed one of our current group reads - A Place of Execution. Val McDermid has be writing for quiet some time but this is the first of her books I've read.

Kim (kimmr) Hi Patrick, and welcome to the group. For people who like old style mysteries, I always recommend Dorothy L Sayers. I love her novels.
