Sessha Batto (sesshabatto) | 9 comments Hello everyone,

I'm relatively new to the world of writing, and certainly can use all the tips, tricks and feedback I can get!

My first novel, Strength of Will, was just released as an e-book last week, and my second, Shinobi, is in the final stages of presubmission editing (arggh).

I do, indeed, have a website up and running dedicated to my writing, both original fiction and fanfiction.

I'd love to hear what everyone thinks!

Thanks, it's good to be here,
Sessha

message 309: by Janet (new)

Janet Fogg Hello! I’m the author of Soliloquy, a time-travel romance that will be released on January 15, 2010. In addition to preparing for Soliloquy’s release, I’m hard at work on a science fiction manuscript that also incorporates time-travel, although I’ve been studying worm holes for the new one. Never thought I’d be studying physics again!

I have a web site dedicated to my writing: www.janetfogg.com. Visiting blogs and writing my own are newer interests, with both devouring writing time, as does my current fascination with book trailers!

When I asked Matt (www.improbabilityproductions.com), a friend with graphics and film experience if he would create my trailer, he suggested doing two, a short teaser and then a full version (62 seconds versus 95 seconds). I launched the “Teaser Trailer” on October 31, 2009 and plan to launch the full version in a few weeks, as well as a third video – an Author Spotlight – another one of Matt’s ideas.

Since Matt did the heavy lifting as far as graphics, my biggest challenge was writing the text for the trailers and it took me quite some time to complete that particular task. For the Author Spotlight, Matt filmed my responses to a series of questions. I suspect that was good practice as I prepare for signings, and hopefully an article or two in our local papers!

My Teaser Trailer is at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoJicvdOOco

I read across most genres but my favorite would be science fiction, followed closely by fantasy. I’ve also developed a fascination with anything to do with World War II and have been focused on it the last few years.

Best regards!
Janet Fogg

Sherry (msjones) | 1 comments Hey!

I'm Sherry Jones, author of The Jewel of Medina and, most recently, The Sword of Medina A Novel, both historical novels about the remarkable A'isha bint Abi Bakr, the Prophet Muhammad's favorite wife and the most famous and influential woman in Islam.

I have a very cool website with lots of goodies, created by smartauthorsites.com. Here's the link: www.authorsherryjones.com.

Because my publisher, Beaufort Books, is small, I'm doing much of the marketing and publicity myself while working on my next book. It's exhausting but lots of fun!

Next I plan to hire a publicist specializing in social media and internet marketing to produce a book trailer for me. I'm considering Book Candy Studios. If you've had experience with them, I'd love to hear about it.

Sherry

Hello Sherri,

I still need to introduce myself on this thread, but I wanted to write and recommend my PR agent Laura Solop. She specializes in social media PR and works with major houses and individual clients. If you visit www.juliefast.com you can see how she and my amazing webmaster set up a social media heavy site for any potential tv and radio spots. It also gets me speaking gigs.

Laura uses Twitter, Facebook, blogs, goodreads, and anything else that works. I have to admit I was a bit reticent at first as I am not a social media fan, but she helps me sell at least 50% of my total book sales.

Here is her information.

http://www.laurasolop.com/laura-solop/

She is especially savvy with newsletter marketing- we are running two campaigns with my mailing list in the next few weeks.

Hope this helps! Julie

Mark (markterencechapman) | 11 comments So far I've received three book reviews for "Sunrise Destiny", my EPIC Award-nominated third novel. It's a paranormal sci-fi detective story, with an unconventional love story woven in.

Here’s the latest review, just received over the weekend:

December 19, 2009
Dark Divas Reviews
Reviewer: Kathy
Rating: 5 Delightful Divas (their highest rating)
URL: http://ddrreviews.blogspot.com/2009/1...

I added Mark Terence Chapman to my auto-buy list; and that was just 80-some pages into the book. This is a very long ~ at 450 pages ~ story, but I never got bored, never lost focus and certainly never wanted to rush it to its conclusion. Sunrise Destiny started off in the vein of one of those old-time PI stories, but there were a few things that didn't quite fit… until I remembered that this is also a sci-fi story. I was much taken with the slight dichotomy and, as the story progressed, found myself more and more intrigued.

Sunrise Destiny can almost be split into at least two parts; at first I wasn't sure it would work, but Mr. Chapman is able to move seamlessly between the two worlds and make everything come together very well. Generally, I find most science fiction stories a little harder to adjust to; especially with regard to the speculative nature and otherworld aspects. With Sunrise Destiny, Mark Chapman's narrative was strong and wonderfully detailed, without overdoing it, and I found myself so involved in Donatello's adventures that I was easily able to enjoy the futuristic elements.

There's evil galore, a plot for world domination, aliens and a good old-fashioned adventure. This is also a romance; the hero, a PI, whose reputation flirts with notoriety and a heroine who is a prostitute and Sunrise's sometime lover. Two people, who on the surface, just don't seem to have what it takes. But they do, and in spades. I loved watching the progression of their long-time relationship from now-and-again to full-bodied romance. Very nicely done Mr. Chapman, very nice indeed.

I do feel that a warning should be given: There is some violence and a disturbing scene; while it's there it is by no means graphic. And it goes a very long way to adding impetus for actions taken later in the book. All in all Mark Terence Chapman's Sunrise Destiny was a wonderful surprise and a story that will definitely be a re-read.

And here are links to the first two reviews:

Hello to All,

I went to a party the other night where I saw many of my writer and movie friends. We had an interesting conversation about the state of the industry. One friend of mine is close to getting a movie made- the script has been accepted and the funding is on its way. This is a huge accomplishment in this industry- it started as a YA novel that didn't sell- but when she turned it into a screenplay- it sold! They are such different genres. If you ever want to attend an amazing writing conference- the Willamette Writer's Conference here in Portland, Oregon is amazing. Those of us at the party talking about the industry all met through the conference. I'm interested to hear of others who are writing YA and screenplays.

Stacy Juba | 10 comments Hi everyone, I'm Stacy Juba and my web site is http://www.stacyjuba.com. My mystery/romantic suspense novel Twenty-Five Years Ago Today is now available. The book trailer is on You Tube at http://bit.ly/d1q71I and I'm in the process of researching other web sites to upload or link it to.

For twenty-five years, Diana Ferguson’s killer has gotten away with murder. When rookie obit writer and newsroom editorial assistant Kris Langley investigates the cold case of the artistic young cocktail waitress who was obsessed with Greek and Roman mythology, she must fight to stay off the obituary page herself.

My reality TV show mystery novel Sink or Swim is due out in December 2010 and I will be creating a trailer for that one also. I use onetruemedia.com to create trailers and I find it a fun and creative process.

Thank you for the opportunity to post!

Linda Gould | 13 comments Below is a youtube link to a book trailer for The Rock Star's Homecoming, one of my three novels published by iUniverse. This one is a chicklit-style social satire about a small college campus that is stirred up by a rock band. I think the music soundtrack is particularly cool. If the band in my story could've played that well, maybe they wouldn't have broken up!
