Elizabeth (elizabethhte) | 19 comments I recently gave my husband tickets to see PERICLES. I've read that it was one of Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime, but neither of us has ever read or seen it. I'm going to try to read it before we go. Has anyone here read, studied, or seen it? Thoughts?

From the playbill: "Spanning oceans and generations, PERICLES has princesses, assassins, exotic locales, a bawdy house and multiple shipwrecks... it's timeless themes of loss redemption, and reconciliation continue to resonate..."

Having taken three separate Shakespeare classes over the course of my university experience, I have literally read everything he wrote. So, in short, yup.

In long, I seem to remember authorship of the first part of the play is in question. I read it so long ago, but if I remember correctly, it is an adventure story with epic (read: tragic) leanings and with, of all things, a happy ending. But I could be confusing it, so others can refresh my memory (because walking over to my bookshelf to look it up is far too difficult for me).

Off to sleep finally - cheers!
