Hack | 15 comments I am in the midst of doing something I had been planning to do for a long time. I am re-reading a number of books I read in high school and college. I got started after reading The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress with the book club. I just finished Starman Jones, Riddle-Master, and I am now planning on diving into a number of other books/series including Have Space Suit-Will Travel, The Belgariad series by David Eddings, and other books. It is amazing how different I see these books through the mirror of a (way too many) years. Has anyone ever done this kind of thing? What do you want to go back and read?

aldenoneil | 1000 comments I've had mixed results with re-reads, but most of the time I find I appreciate a book much more. Interesting that you mention high school, because many of the books I find I want to re-read, I first read during that time (The Left Hand of Darkness and Red Mars, which I already went back to once, spring to mind).

I think if I re-read anything next it'll be the whole of Robinson's Mars series or The Hobbit/LOTR. I don't know that I'll ever get enough of either of those.

Andrew (adrew) | 426 comments I tend to jump around with my re-reading of books. What has actually prompted me to re-read some books has been both Audiobooks (if you call it reading)we're I've listened to some books that I've previously read, and having my wife read some of my book collection which has prompted me to also re-read some of said books.

There are some books I've re-read on many occasions such as LOTR (Hobbit less so), and most of Terry Pratchett's books I've probably read 3 or 4 times as they always put me in a good mood.

Kris (kvolk) I reread something all the time as I have a lot of books on the shelf at home and don't always have the funds to buy new or the time to look for something else. I have found that the books I like the most offer the best readability over time and I learn something new each time I reread them. Usually the first read through I am pretty much only focused on the plot and miss nuances of character and scene then later I pick those things up on reading again. It's great when I read something that I haven't read in a while and it is almost like a new story even though I may remember the ending most of the details are fresh and fun to discover all over again.

Kev (sporadicreviews) | 667 comments I used to re-read frequently, especially favorite books.

I tried to re-read LOTR recently and absolutely couldn't get into it.

I have less time to read these days, so I'm planning on sticking to new material unless I don't have something handy.
