Timothy Davis | 53 comments Hi more-knowledgeable librarians. My books Sea Cutter: Book I in the Chronicles of Nathaniel Child and Red Stone: Book II in the Chronicles of Nathaniel Child have disappeared from my page! Can anyone help me get them back on it? And...BTW, both books are available through Smashwords now. Sea Cutter ISBN 978-0-615-51371-3. Red Stone ISBN 978-1-4657-2803-6. Thanks for your help! Best, Tim :)

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments I see three copies of book 1 (In Search of Perlas Grandes aka Sea Cutter) and two copies of book 2 (Indian's Ruby aka Red Stone).

Are these combinations incorrect, or are there other editions to be pulled in? I see one of the Sea Cutter editions is a Smashwords one, but the isbn didn't pull up a Red Stone edition yet.

You'll only see the most popular edition of a book on your page, so the one with the most ratings. That will change over time, and as the new editions get more ratings. Hope this helps!

It looks like each book was published under two different titles, correct?

message 4: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Davis | 53 comments Yes, because they are DIFFERENT books! Very different.

message 5: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Davis | 53 comments It's as if someone combined Sea Cutter with In Search of Perlas Grandes, and combined Red Stone with The Indian's Ruby.

Timothy wrote: "Yes, because they are DIFFERENT books! Very different."

Then why is each one labeled "Part I" and "Part II" of The Chronicles of Nathaniel Childe? How can it have two Part Ones and two Part Twos?

message 7: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments I did combine them...

Both Sea Cutter and In Search of Perlas Grandes are subtitled (Book I in the Chronicles of Nathaniel Child).

worldCat also lists Indian's Ruby as Chronicles of Nathaniel Childe, bk. 2., which is also what you've subtitled Red Stone

Beth (bethjustbeth) | 1568 comments Okay...separated them out. Checking to make sure the descriptions are correct, now. See if that corrects it. :)

Timothy Davis | 53 comments Thanks!!!!! Can you help me get Sea Cutter and Red Stone under the "series" box? Thanks again.

message 10: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments Tim, they will be recombined if they continue to be labeled as Part I and Part II of a series. That is just GR policy on combining editions.

Beth (bethjustbeth) | 1568 comments I have them separated, and I have them in the "series" box. Still looking for the descriptions for Sea Cutter, and checking Indian's Ruby and Red Stone.

message 12: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Davis | 53 comments Thanks. Red Stone and Sea Cutter show up as the two books in the series when you click the series link, but the book covers shown are for In Search of Perlas Grandes and The Indian's Ruby. (?) Any help there? Thanks again.

Timothy Davis | 53 comments Hey! Sea Cutter and Red Stone have disappeared again, and they are not listed as The Chronicles of Nathaniel Childe anymore. What...? Thanks!

message 14: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments Tim, the cover of each book says that they are each Part I and Part II of the same series, so the editions need to be combined.

When you took the series name off the one book, it then only shows on the book page (and series page, now that Beth created a series for them.)

Hi Carolyn. I had no idea I would run into this kind of problem when I rewrote the books. They are four different books. I am trying to sell Sea Cutter, not In Search of Perlas Grandes. The books are very different. And I am trying to sell Red Stone not The Indian's Ruby. What can I do? Thanks, Tim

message 16: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments If they are completely different books, the best solution would seem to be naming them as a different series. (I don't know if that is possible at this point.)

But keep in mind, and not to be harsh - but GR is not about *selling* your books, it is for readers. So - promote the heck out of the new ones (responsibly, please), and as I said earlier, when the number of reviews on the newer editions exceeds the # on the older versions, the new ones will show up first/on your page.

Keep in mind, all your editions *are* actually on GR, so link directly to those book pages when you are promoting it.

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments Hold on, let me see if I can get the new book covers in the series section...

ETA: Nope, selects the most-rated edition. Sorry!

Hi Carolyn. I cannot rename the books now. But you say that Sea Cutter and Red Stone will start showing up as they get more reviews? Or, is there a way to de-serialize these books? Believe me, I'm sorry for all the trouble. If I had known, I would not have called the series by the same name. Thanks! -- Tim

Beth (bethjustbeth) | 1568 comments Sorry...stepped away and lost the thread. I had communications with other librarians, who explained to me what happened, so I was the one who combined them, last, since I incorrectly uncombined them.

When someone searched for "Red Stone," or "Sea Cutter," or they search by isbn, they will get the ones they are seeking.

I'm sorry I was so confused! (At least you weren't alone, there, Timothy...I was on the thread yesterday, and thought I understood it).

Thank you Beth! But I'm still confused. The 1985 & 1986 Chronicles of Nathaniel Childe I considered dead. Why do they have to be combined with live books? Oh, well. Thanks for all of your help! -- Tim

message 21: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments I figured it was too late to rename it, but had to mention it. Can't really 'deserialize' it - it is what it says on the cover, on both books.

The edition with the most reviews/ratings is the one that shows up when a search is done, so yes, as the new editions get more ratings, that should push them up to the front of the group.

Timothy Davis | 53 comments Thanks again Carolyn! Gotta take a kitty to the vet. Best, Tim
