Yes,he sure does. In the first one, the introductory volume as I like to call it, the story turned serious towards the end. In this one, right in the middle it's like a huge reality bomb went off (and I mean story reality, not actual reality, because..that would be crazy.. heh..hehh..hehehe)

The fight in the jail was pretty intense, with little joking and Tom Foolery. I really felt for Karen and Dresden and even McFinn.

Good stuff.

message 553: by C.S. Splitter (new)

C.S. Splitter | 234 comments Ok, I remember that scene! I have read all of the series so things sometimes run together, but that scene remains clear in my mind. It was one of his better scenes I think so it sticks out.

I liken Dresden Files to turning on a well known TV show in which you fell like you know the characters likes friends. Comparing it to TV might sound like a bad thing, but I mean it in the most positive way. I always open up a Dresden book and expect to be entertained. I have not been disappointed yet even if the stories are sometimes pretty similar.

Started Bloody Mary yesterday. Lets hear it for the Amazon lending library!

Yes, and I know my shadow may object to the comparison, but for me, that segement of the attack on/in the Police station reminds me of my favorite Kolchak (The Night Stalker) show--The Werewolf on a Cruise Ship. At sea, where are you going to go to get away from him? ... and contrary to popular beliefe, there isn't a lot of silver to be found on a cruise ship.

That scene was pretty intense. I agree that it's like a good TV show. You can have a reasonable expectation of what your going to get and when you want something dependable, you can pick up Harry Dresden.

I hope you enjoy Jack and Herb's interaction with the Feebies (and Vicky) like I did. And, watchout for Harry McGlade, he's um... ah...colourful. Yeah, that's it, he's colourful.

Yeah, the Feebies cracked me up. Especially the Canadian Mountie thing in Whiskey Sour. About half way done with Bloody Mary- it's some pretty gruesome stuff.

Like Eileen, I've dived into the latest in the Bubba Trilogy. Just started it.

Sharon Michael | 449 comments Just finished The Informationistand was quite impressed. A tough, though *damaged* female lead and much of the action set in modern day Africa.

I just finished the third Jewel in the Bubba series.

"Bubba and the Missing Woman" by C.L. Bevill. I got caught up in it and stayed up late reading until I finished. It's funny.

I don't know what to read next!

message 563: by Eileen (new)

Eileen You enjoyed it that much, Hugh? I got sidetracted and haven't had time to finish reading Bubba. Can't wait to get back to it, I need the laugh.

I like the bubba books. I also liked that once Bubba got out of the doldrums, the book got a lot funnier.

I'm still nominating Miss Demetrice for Congress.

message 565: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Miss Demetrice would sure know how to get things done.

I would love to be invited to one of her card games!

Me too! And, I used to have a "precious" as a side kick. Actualy Henry (my Basset Hound) was maile and mostly brown and white but he went everywhere with me like Precious does Bubba.

And, Watch out for Brownie and Janie. Those two might rule the world some day.

I think this one got better and better.

I'm currently reading The Altman Code by Robert Ludlum. I'm not so far into it to say good or bad yet, but so far, it's like the other three (which is good) but I agree with Mike, These are not like his earlier works.

My favorite The Holcroft Covenant reads and feels different. I like Code One series, but I think Lind and the other shadow writers are running the show here.

I just finished Death Cloud over lunch. It's a young Sherlock Holmes story, so if you're into Holmes, it's not bad.

message 569: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I knew something was going happen between Brownie and Janie, Hugh.

I just finished Storm Front. I liked it, I just didn't love it like I was hoping. The character of Dresden I liked and will continue on with the series. It was the story that was a little lacking of something, for me. Over all a good book

Eileen, most people don't love the first few Dresden novels. I actually liked it a lot, and loved the next three. Still need to read the books after Summer Knight.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
You probably know that the series is one of my favorites Eileen. I rate them all five stars (we have a fairly limited rating system) but Lady D is right. The firs two or maybe three books are good, but they seem to hit their stride after that and get magnitudes better.

message 572: by Eileen (new)

Eileen It was entertaining enough for me that I will very soon continue onto the next one. I can see them improving as the series goes on and I've heard enough good things about the series(everyone can't be wrong)that I will keep going, promise.

Eileen Currently reading The Bleeding Season almost finished. Just finished the audio of Lullaby Town it was great to listens to while you're Christmas shopping. I OMG and laughed out loud while listening in the store and looked around to make sure no one was staring at me. Now I'm going back to The Dresden Files and starting Fool Moon.

Eileen Bubba and I share the love of shrimp because shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That, that’s about it.

I enjoy shrimp as well, but every time I eat shrimp (or lobster for that matter) I can't help but wonder just how hungry the first person who ate one really was!

Okay, finished Bubba, now finished with The Altman Code and I want a Randi Russel spin off... Gayle Lynds are you listening?

Good spy-vs-spy story. A solid, entertaining read that has a few twists of it's own.

Jody (jodychesen) | 16 comments I'm currently reading Seven Deadly Wonders. I'm doing things out of order since I already read The Six Sacred Stonesbut I loved it so I had to start from the beginning...Next stop The Five Greatest Warriors...and the other Reilly books too! Finished the Altman Code, now I'm reading Declare by Tim Powers . It's good, more of a suspence thriller than action adventure, but I'm just getting into it now. It's good.

It's written by Tim Powers who wrote one of my favorite Historical Fantasy novels The Drawing of the Dark. Powers really does a good job of absorbing his story in the time period he's writing in. He doens't move or change the Historical markers that do exist, he finds those that aren't explained and turns them into thrilling fun.
