I haven't read them, but The Plantation sounds intriguing...How is it so far? I had not heard of Chris Kuzneski before, but a lot of his books sound interesting. I might have to check him out.

I've finished Firebird and started on Deathworld Trilogy by Harry Harrison. This one may be marginal on the Action end of things, but it's certainly up there on the adventure end. Good old fashioned science fiction...(like mom used to make). Penned in 1961 and I'm finding it a good read.

Good to know...thanks.

I've finished "Death World" (and Firebird before that) and I've moved on to read The Reluctant by C.S. Splitter.

Crikey Hugh... you're a reading-machine!! Having finished The Pawn I'm now 30% into Turing Evolved which (despite some terrible formatting and grammar) has unexpectedly grabbed me so far (it's Sci-fi Action: sort of "Bladerunner meets The Matrix")... :)

Pillars of the Earth is one of my favorite books Alice...hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Almost finished with Princeps' Fury, it' pretty good. I just started The Knights of the Dawn King and it's started out good. I'm getting pulled in, but.... did you ever wish someone would construct a fantasy world where the people wee named George and Mary or something equally pronounceable?

LOL, I think it is a rule for fantasy authors to use apostrophes liberally in names. Lots of x's too. Maybe 5 consonants in a row her and there.

There's a strong female character in the making (with a major role) in Pillars of the Earth, a wild spirit.

I grew up extremely dyslexic (Now called a reading disorder. I have heartburn with that distinction, but I'll keep that to myself.) When I was reading Tokien I could never come up with the same pronounciation of the names. All those vowels together just messed with me.

I read a lot of Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion books a few years ago. Lately I found a copy of Elric of Melniboné in audio read by Michael Moorcock and found I'd been mispronouncing "Melnibone'" for years.

I really enjoyed Pillars of the Earth too. Coincidentally we've just started watching the TV series on DVD and it seems to be a good adaptation so far; keeping surprising close to the original storyline! :)
Finishing up The Reluctant, not sure where to go next. Probably a Urban Fantasy to keep my mind from getting into a rut. (Sigh) I've got to many things I like and want to read.
Might go for Slaughterhouse Five by Vonegutt or Ender's Game... both group reads.. but I have plenty of time for those. Day-ummm... I can't decide.

If you liked "The Pillars of the Earth" you might like The Hidden Oasis by Paul Sussman or Tim Powers's Declare. Both fun reads.

Slaughterhouse Five is one of my all time favorite books. Enders Game is pretty darn good too!

I actually wound up going to book eight of the Galaxy Unknown series Return to Dakistee (Janetta Carver, Admiral, Space Command) though this is more about her sister Christa. Then Ender's game as an audio book, and then maybe Slaughterhouse Five.
I'm not short books. I also have Cry Wolf around somewhere.

I have heard many good things about this series, so I am starting
. Not sure how much action is in it, but it is about Navy SEALs.

That is a good series, Lisa. The A/A elements are actually one of the best things about that series. And the heroes ain't shabby either. Wait till you meet Sam!
I don't care for most of the heroines, but Alyssa's cool. I also liked Teri. The series is about Navy SEALs, so no female SEALs (yet).
but there are women right? Or is this kind of like "The 300" the movie. A bunch of sweaty greek dudes with swords stickin it to a bunch of sweaty Persian dudes with swords (and I don't mean that metaphorically).
Lots of fun history, action but, any romance is um... interesting... sort of (not that there's anything wrong with that) .... and few or no female characthers.

She puts the SEALs heroes and the heroines in a variety of situations, so broader. They are romantic suspense novels, so yes, romance.
Wrote? I kind of thought Wilbur and Orville Wright figured out the airplane first, unless you count Davinci.
