Coyote's Audiobook isn't bad either. (I purchased it through iTunes.)

John Ringo's Into the Looking Glass series is also long on hard science. The sequel, Vorpal Blade centers on a star ship built around a submarine.

Eileen Just finished Resurrected: An Adam Wolf Thriller and can't say enough how much I enjoyed this book. I'm also done with The Cleaner and will post my thoughts in the other thread.

I have no idea what to read now... I hate when that happens. I have a lot to chose from, just not sure which way to go.

I hate it when that happens, too, Eileen. Usually I know what I want to read next. Sometimes I don't have a choice. LOL. Other times, although I have lots of books, nothing pulls at me.

I just typed a long and intricately funny post, and Goodreads lost it!!!! Too bad, it was hysterical...even historical!!!!

Stupid Goodreads glitch.

Sorry you don't know what to read Eileen.

LOL, I'm sure it was historical!

The naughty Goodreads Gotcha fairy has snatched some "Epic Posts" of mine too. I try to remember to block and copy the large posts before i hit post. Then, if it eats the post, I just recycle the page and paste it back in. Sometimes I forget to remember that... forget to.. you get the idea.

Yes, it's like a wo...er...one of those people who strikes after lulling you to safety...

(yes, it was unclear if it was Hugh's hand that saved him from having to eat his foot, or his foot that made him eat his fingers....)

It was nice to read about a mature male who used his brain to solve his problems. Plus, he was funny as hell.

I've been reading Valiant by Jack Campbell. I think it may be better than any of the books to day, or a close tie with the first book.

This is a book that has , I don't want to call them strong female characters, male and female characters of equal power and importance.

Of course, you'd think a guy who's over 100 years old would be better at managing his romantic pursuits than he is... and it never helps when your mistress and the woman you really love share the same bridge with you... sometimes even a Battleship isn't big enough... know what I mean?

Kidding aside, It's a good, solid story that has not disappointed me. It lacks the flash and flair of Soldier of the Legion, but it was written by a man who understands Navy, and fleet maneuvers, and has managed to translate how real Naval formations travel in a 2 dimensional sense to three dimensional space.

The battles are fun, the personalities interesting and the problem presented in the plot pleasantly complex.

I'm enjoying it.

I agree. One of my biggest 'pet peeves' about the characters in action/police/detective books is the characters with major flaws that seen to pretty much stumble through the plot. As a former law enforcement professional, that tends to get old really quick for me.

Adam Wolf seems likely to become one of my favorite series for many of the same reasons I follow Craig Johnson's Longmier series and John Sandford's Lucas Davenport series. After stumbling around a little, I'm now reading another with a mature, professional main character that is keeping my attention Birdsongs

Remember Hugh, he was asleep most of that time. Not to be politically incorrect but I was married 34 years and still baffled most of the time...

And yes I've been seeing Alice in her chair a lot. Mostly if you just go back a screen and try again she vanishes.

message 1170: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Sharon, I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes when I'm reading I'm shaking my head and thinking are you really that stupid?

I don't know about anyone else. Sometimes when I'm reading I put myself in the characters shoes and I wonder what I would do a in that situation.

I'll have to check out the books you mentioned.

Sharon Michael | 449 comments Not quite sure what category this one belongs in SECTOR C by Phoenix Sullivan A bit of a "Jurassic Park" theme ... but interesting. About half-way in and although it is a bit of a slow start, there is definitely an increase in tension as well. Characters quite well done and the shifts between the various groups involved is reasonably smooth.

The author is knowledgeable about veterinary practice and apparently has a background in large animal/ livestock veterinary practice, which is always a plus for me.

Finished Valiant. There are some wonderful themes, philosophies and ideas in this book.

What I once thought was an Anti-War Theme, similar to BSG 2005, I then thought might be an Anti Nuke theme... but now, I get it...I'm dense sometime. There's a really good message for military people (and anyone for that matter) about how to wage war with Courage, honor, mercy and dignity.

best one of the series.

Your right Mike, it's pure "Space-Opera" but, it's a wonderful tale.

I love the concept of "Honor Your Ancestors." The way he expresses it here. Live by a code that would make them proud to know you not embarrassed. ("When you get to Heaven and meet them" is what I read into that, but that might just be me.)

Quote of the day:

"Only those who show Mercy, can expect Mercy." (or something like that.)

I finished this last night and it was good entertainment although the ending left something to be desired. The main female character (a country veterinarian) was particularly well developed. It wasn't bad enough to keep me from wanting to read more by this author, just disappointing after the rest of the book being very much what I enjoy.

Okay, this is weird... I was listening to Bloodlines while cooking supper. When it got to a part where Kane solo's my dog sat up and looked alert. When I shut it off he went and lay down on the couch (faking sleep...like he'd heard kane do)... maybe that's an endorsement? If the dog like it then... ?

Still reading Bloodline: A Sigma Force Novel.

I think it's pretty much proven that his non-sigma characters exist in his Sigma-Force framework. (and I didn't know (view spoiler)

So Joe Kowolski came from Ice Hunt. Jack's now in there from Deep Fathom... and I think the original director had a cameo appearance at the end of Amazonia to set up Sigma Force under DARPA... and he, (view spoiler)

I wonder where the Indian Sheriff is? She was kind of nice... in a BOOM don't move or I'll shoot sort of way.

Eileen I started Killing Floor today and from the first line in the book I knew I was going to Jack Reacher. I'm a lucky girl, reading two great books. Finishing up with Monster Hunter Vendetta, which is a fun crazy ride.

So I've heard that Tom cruise is playing Reacher, is that right? Well isn't Jack in his thirties and Cruise just turn 50. Jack is a big man and Cruise is only 5'7". What were they thinking when casting him.

Couldn't agree more, Eileen. Already finished. Talk about great pacing, I couldn't put it down! I thought the character development for Jack was great, especially compared to some I have read recently. I was a little thrown by a couple of the "coincidences" in the main plot thread, but overall I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the checking out the next installment.

They are very different in temperment and style, but it would be interesting to see a "competition" between Jack Reacher and Robert Crais's "Joe Pike."
