Alice (nationofcrumb) | 297 comments Well Hugh recommended the Joe Pike series by Crais. Me being me I figured I needed to read the Elvis Cole series first because Joe is introduced in them. So...

I just started The Monkey's Raincoat. It's very 80s so far, but Elvis has a snark I truly appreciate. Let's see if it lives up to all the hype on the cover.

I'm reading a dark book, with a dark hero. It's good but the heroe's only marginally better than the villains. Donovan Creed-meany for the CIA. His office is also in the same small town where I was born... figure the odds.

Lethal People (A Donovan Creed Crime Novel) by John Locke

I found The Watchman on audiobook at the library, so I'm going to start there.

THat's where I started. I liked Elvis Cole, but Joe Pike's just too cool. Have fun with it. He's a scary paladin type...

I think I've got a review on The Watchman too... Love Joe Pike as a character. He's a great hero type.

message 156: by Alice (new)

Alice (nationofcrumb) | 297 comments I can't wait to see what you think Danielle. I just know me and if I start with The Watchman I'll drive myself crazy knowing there are books featuring his character out there that I haven't read.

Even with the Pendergast series, there were other books Lincoln/Child wrote that didn't feature him, but had secondary characters that fold into the series (does that make sense?). Had to read them first so I'd have the characters full backstory.

I tend to try to read books in order, but sometimes I cheat. I will usually go back and read the other books to get a full picture, and I'm okay. Some series, not so much.

message 158: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Boone | 66 comments I love Robert Crais books. Pike and Cole are fantastic characters that really keep your attention.

They play each other's side kicks. Kind of funny that way. I like the twist.

message 161: by Traci (new)

Traci I have just finished a long, confusing, and boring book. I need fun! Next up I think I might continue with the Dresden series and read Summer Knight.

If you want a fun read... Try Bubba and the Dead Woman (Bubba Snoddy, #1) by C.L. Bevill I have a reveiw. It's light, fun and funny as hell!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
Ooo Ya! Go Dresden.

I'd read anything with the name Bubba in the title. That name always makes me laugh.

message 167: by Traci (new)

Traci I read and finished Summer Knight, my favorite Dresden so far. Last night I started The Lost World. And this morning I started Swords & Dark Magic: The New Sword and Sorcery a short story collection for new sword and sorcery.

It's going to be a 4 star ready. I ear marked some reviews others have done if you want to see the "hugh Likes" seal of approval (ooooo, power now) or... wait till I finish mine.

I do thing you'll enjoy it more if you read my review or one of the ones I have liked. I was surprised by the "it's not what you think it is factor."

Good read, very dark characters. Even the heroes.

I've posted my review, if you feel up to reading it. (I can be tedious sometimes. Or so I hear.)

message 177: by Alice (new)

Alice (nationofcrumb) | 297 comments Finished Monkey's Raincoat- enjoyed it more than I thought I would, especially toward the end.

For some reason I'm feeling very unmotivated to read this week. I'm not sure if it's my current choice, SiaSL by Heinlein (it's just not grabbing me), or just a down period.

Either way it's leaving a bad taste.

Traci Sounds interesting and will be added to my wishlist.
btw, my family says there's a personality that either becomes a cop or a serial killer. And my uncle is a cop. (He's one of the goodguys) Lol.

WEll, you didn't run away screaming so your either okay with the review or cra... um... serial killer? (it's okay if we don't exchange addresses right?)

When you dream, is it Harley Davidson, Electroglide (in Blue, staring Eric Estrada) or... Dexter?

message 181: by Traci (last edited Sep 14, 2011 02:07PM) (new)

Traci Dexter of course. We have a Dexter calender up in our work office. And it's a medical billing company.

(I-{l)> um, does anyone else hear crickets? because I'm hoping there's a Dexter that sells medical supplies AND the Dexter Show. Or, that the cricket sound is my momentary insanity alarm going of so I can clear my throat and go... Excuse me... serial killer, sweety...did you sa that, or police woman?

message 183: by Traci (new)

Traci Hey. Dexter's not bad. He performs a public service.

*actually it's a coworker's calender. I have cute cat pictures.

I would laugh if I were at the doctor's or the hospital and saw a Dexter calender. I would then, maybe, go to another hospital. LOL Or just tell the receptionist, "I'm not a bad guy, I swear. I just have this terrible stomach illness."

lol

message 187: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I hate to admit this....I have never watched Dexter. The show is really that good?

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
I read the first book...that was sort of enough. Somehow sympathizing with a serial killing psychopath (sociopath?) (even if he does only kill "bad" serial killers) seemed like a road I didn't want to go down.

Call me weird.

Eileen wrote: "I hate to admit this....I have never watched Dexter. The show is really that good?"

I've only watched the first season. I liked it but you have to be okay with dark, very dark, humor. It's not for everyone and especially not for squeamish.

you missed the one of me in my dress whites! But thank you for noticing Lee... of course, it might have been better if you were one of the many resident (on GR) hot babes and fluttered your eyelashes at me.

I'm old, but I ain't dead! (and I ain't that old, if you know what I mean!)

I got this one up because it's more crumudgeonly and more current. (taken this summer on the Outer Banks, NC)
