What are you reading now?

I haven't read all of his ... a few I've tried and haven't gotten through at all, he's hit and miss for me but there are several I've liked very well, and I don't remember them as being all that graphic.
One series I liked quite well was his River God series and I've liked a couple of his stand alone books well enough to re-read them occasionally ... Eye of the Tiger and Sunbird.

Alice, I hope you find one that knocks it out the park for you.
Same for you, Jason.
Joel, that sounds kind of scary. Terrorism is pretty terrible (if you'll forgive the inadvertent pun), so I don't need extra gruesome to feel it.

Moving onto Goldfinger (finally) and the next Bowers, The Knight.
I found The Gargoyle on audio at the library, but I wasn't in the mood to listen to it. I will read it one day.

You know I'm a Bowers fan!

Uh-oh! It seems like it would be depressing.

Steven James writes his characters into some dark places (psycolgical thrillers?) but he always leaves a ladder out of the pit at the end.
Just to be clear, I was referring to the Gargoyle when I said it would be depressing.
I definitely want to try the Bowers series, Hugh.

My The Queen Review pretty much tells what you can expect from the others (I don't think I had too many spoilers if any in there). Always a good message. In the first book I had to ask myself if it was really there or if it was a case of "hugh" reading too much into things again. Now, I've come to expect and look for the healing, spiritual theme.
The neat thing is, that it's a great story even if you don't recognize the spiritual message, or don't want it. James really did a good job. It's a thriller and a chiller.

It was a bit. Some very graphic passages.
I've pulled out of it though!
Almost done with Secret of the Sands. It isn't an action book, but I'm sure it qualifies as adventure! It seems the end is packed tight with stuff. I'll let you know how it turns out.
How interesting, Hugh. I'll look for your review.

In the middle of Goldfinger, Joe Pike has distracted me from 007.
Eileen, I bought The First Rule, but I'm not sure when I'll get to read it. I am totally obsessed with Pike now. I'm glad you liked The Watchman.

I loved Watchman. I'm done with Secret of the Sands (Review pending) and almost through with Bubba and the 12 Deadly Days of Christmas. (Funny book, just like the first one).

Poor Bubba, can never get a break!

I have a suspicion that part is a bit autobiographical, though I don't know if it's a victim's perspective or the perpetrator.

Anyhow, I'm reading the Steven Erikson Malazan books (fantasy). Currently on the second Deadhouse Gates.
Hi Traci. Good to hear from you. I mean to start the Malzon series one of these days.
James, I enjoyed The Lightning Thief.

I finished Temple and have moved on to Diamond Sand. And I've got the first Dresden book in the cue after that.

I like some of Iris Johnasen's books very well but I ended up getting burned out on the "Bonnie" thing with Eve. Just got to the point where it seemed (to me) to overwhelm everything for some reason. I gave up on any of her "Eve" books but still read most of the others by her.

Those are both great books. I loved the search dogs.

Another series with dogs I enjoyed very much was Lanier's "Bloodhound" series and I like the "Sister Jane" hunt club series by Rita Mae Brown set in VA.

Eileen, I don't blame you. My sister confirms that I am obsessed with Joe Pike, and I've only read the first book!
You know, I'm sure there's a Fruedian Joke in that somewhere but... I'll leave it alone for now, because I'm trying to fool eveyone into thinking I'm a gentleman.

We sure like Wilbur Smith but I have never read this one. I was reading Cloister Cats yesterday and it can be read in one day if you keep going. It very pleasant and then later I started on Fallen which I like so far. So far I would give it 5 stars. In fact I would give both these books 5 stars at the moment.
