What are you reading now?

I just ordered a copy of the Han Solo Adventures - I didn't even know this existed. Thanks! Han is my favorite character (plus he can transform into Indiana Jones).
D.L. wrote: "I. Curmudgeon wrote: "I finished the Han Solo adventures by Brian Daley. Those are fun, and definately action oriented sci-fi. Daley was the first author allowed to write a spin-off from the Star..."
D.L. Brian Daley fell in love with Star Wars and got himself included in a lot of it. He also wrote the adaptation form screen to radio for Star Wars and there are some shorts he's got out there somewhere.
Daley's Solo is a wonderful character, both deeper and so like the Han we came to know and love in th emovies. It's older writing, and Daley has sort of an old-world, storytellers style here. The second book's opening scene, which is usually almost an anecdotal story to get things going, is hilarious... Daley's Solo is fun (so was Lucas's to).
He's a true action hero of the 70s, ... safe sex means don't end two books in a row with the same hot space babe in spandex! In an even more fun twist, or dashing rogue hero doesn't always get the girl (sometimes they figure him out first) ...
He writes Chewie just like he was in the movies. He grungs and growls and everyone that understands wookie speaks to him in English. We still don't know what he's saying.
FUn story. I loved em.

It was a 4 star book for me until the ending which pushed it to a 5 for me but I completely understand where you are coming from. It never seemed slow to me just methodical with its set up and world building.

It's time to nominate our June 2014 Science Fiction Action/Adventure group read. You can post your pick for the poll here:

Apparently James Marsters wasn't able to record that one for some reason, but he's back after it. The fans weren't happy.
1632 by Eric Flint is my latest read. So far it's a good read, a over-involved in altruistic pro-Americanism, but a good read.
I liked that book to. The sequels sort of... sadly wandered off in odd directions, still a good idea.

There are some vague simalarities to this and the Destroyermen Series (very vague ones) and I found that story and plot tight through book 8 (I'm waiting to get book 9 next month). That's a good story first book Into the Storm by Taylor Anderson.

Peace, Seeley

Too Bad. Thing is, John Glover is quite good. It's just that he's not Harry Dresden!

I've heard a lot about that series lately. I'll have to try it. Should I start with the first book or can I jump in anywhere?

I got them either free of for 99 cents from amazon. I liked them, the middle seemed a bit redundant the last book weird but good and they picked back up... still, fun read though. First book is really good.
Konrath's got a good sense of humor. for another chase the serial killer story I liked the Patrick Bowers Files by Steven James (first book: The Pawn). These are pretty dark, but they also have a good theme message of healing in them. They are dark though.

Thanks for mentioning The Pawn I've been meaning to read that.

Thanks everyone. Free is good :)

Okay, is it just me, or when I see magic-cats profile pick, I keep wanting to say, in as deep a voice as I can muster...
"GRIFFINDORF!"

I find I've read the earlier Dresden books so often I'm going, Oh yeah we're here now". Maybe I don't have to start with the first book for every reread????

What, you think maybe "Huffle-Puff?"

No....I just wondered if you'd spotted some sign that gave it away. He looks pretty bright to me. Might also be Ravenclaw.

Cliff Graham. About David & his Mighty Men (Bible). I am about 40% into this book and will pick up the 2nd in this series for sure..."
I love the 'mighty men' stories. 'Ha giborim David.' I am not a traditional Christian, but the Bible has some wonderful stories.

That's a slow build type of book, Travis. It never seemed to drag for me but there was loads of world building. I did like the fact that there were only 4 or 5 main pov. The last, oh 300 pages or so are just jam packed with reveals large and small and I couldn't put it down towards the end.
