which I found buried in my TBR pile (fun surprise!). I find his writing full of expository detail based on characters from earlier books. Occasionally, we indie authors get scathing reviews because of exposition.
Are you more forgiving of a long-term author's bad habits? (Personally, I give indies a bit more leeway because of limited resources.)
Peace, Seeley

I expect authors to work on their bad habits and I expect improvement as they gain more experience. Certain bad habits will cause me to abandon a series or author if they bother me enough.
I've been reading 1632 byEric Flint and 1633 by Eric Flint and David Weber. Flint wrote the first one and Webber (of Honor Harrington Fame) joined him on the second one. It's a good read. Some action, well treated characters, bullets fly, as does a lot of rah-rah political icor and still it's fun. Not better than Destroyermen Series but very close and similar feel to them, even though they are clearly two very different stories.
And in 11 hours, book 9 to the Destroyermen Series by Taylor Anderson,Deadly Shores is availible in Audiobook at Audibile! "Hoot!"

I've started book 9 of the Destroyermen Series. There's a hilarious fishing expedition with Denis Silva and Earl Lanier that had me laughing as I drove (audiobook, but I bought the kindle version too).
I just finished the second book of Eric Flint and David Webber series 1633. It's also a good series and I'll pick that one up with 1634 after I finish Deadly Shores.

I'm reading The Iron Jackal, book 3 in the Ketty Jay series. This is a fun, fast-moving set of books with interesting characters. Folks who like Firefly would love this series.
Not ready to compare Joe Hunter to Jack Reacher but Dead Man's Dust is a good book.

Really enjoyed the Cussler novels. Not sure I like the co-authored ones though.

and

I really enjoyed Altered Carbon.
I finished The Iron Jackal, book 3 of the Ketty Jay series. Fantastic, action packed, fun, exciting read. Fans of the TV show Firefly would love it.

I didn't enjoy AC as much as I thought I would but I loved the Paks series.
Just started Thief's Magic, it was cheap for Kindle and I have never read any of her books so thought I would join a buddy read for another group.
Just started Marque and Reprisal in audio form...I downloaded it from the library. At first I thought I hated it...then I realized, it's a good book. The narration on the other hand is atrocious, horrid, terrible, repugnant.
I'm going to try and get through the book but the reader is POOR.

The best narrator book match I've heard was Scott Brick reading "The Road to Gandofo" (Ludlum). It's a satire and that Don LaFontane super serious voice really worked well with the satirical humor. He had me laughing a lot.
(side not, that's also a very interesting side of Robert Ludlum. It's a funny book that, in a way, pokes fun at his own very popular novels of espionage etc.)
It took me a while to get used to Marsters (Spike from Buffy) reading Jim Butcher's Dresden series, but once I made the shift he works for me.

"Whispers from the Curmudgeons Ghost" have you read To Honor You Call Us (and it's sequel)? I think you'd like it. Space Navy very space Navy. I think it's (another) that will put you in mind of the Hornblower books.

I think I am enjoying the cyberpunk more than the noir part. Some descriptions of women make me feel really uncomfortable, like that torture scene. And that sex scene was the most ridiculous. Right now AC is a 3 for me.
I love Paks so far! Elizabeth Moon is just such an amazing writer.

That's my favorite Ludlum novel. Unlike the rest of his books, it's in on the joke.

Oh, dear! Another!
Based on your recommendation, got To Honor You Call Us and really did like it. I'm on the sequel now ....

I know, but sounds like the third is supposed to be available in the near future ... fingers crossed!

The next is an assassin with a Walther P22. I have been disappointed with my p22 not ejecting shells properly. Just doesn't seem to be the smooth operator as the PPK 380. You know James bonds gun. I can see the perks for the story the p22 has nice weight small size and balance making easy concealment but I personally will probably move to a bit larger and heavier stainless steel ruger mark 3. I'm no gun expert but I have my opinions none the less
The .22 rim fire is a favored caliber with Israeli assassins from what I've read...that said semi-autos chambered for it can suffer from lack of enough power to both propel round and work the action.
Interestingly have you read the James Bond books? In the books Bond favored a Beretta .25. There was an entire scene about M insisting he go to a larger caliber. (I never cared for a .25. The .22 is actually a better round).
I've never fired the Walther. I know though that .22 semi-autos do traditionally have jaming problems and that the new Walthers have a good rep. Could it be the round?
Personally I tend to like larger calibers but learned on a .22. I used to have revolvers.

One of my favorite narrations was The Rook. Susan Duerden did an awesome, although it took a while to get used to her singsongy Welsh accent.

Interesting my father who only watched the movies always told me Bond used the 380 but I could be mixed up on that one. Revolvers I think are better in the smaller calibers. I have thought the rounds to be the problem as I have a low grain federal spitfire high velocity shell but here in NY .22 shells are impossible or were impossible to buy. People would literally line up at the door 2 hours before a shipment of .22 shells would come in and they would sell out within an hour for crazy prices. You could get any other caliber just the .22 were the problem some government thing. I'm hoping to get the highest grain I can find someday and hope it solves the problem. We actually put a lot more rounds through the 9 mom than the .22. As soon as the wife gives me approval I hope to get a big ole 44 revolver. We just target shoot with the pistols anyway its such a great stress reliever . Problem is I've been around guns my whole life and my wife seems to be a natural and constantly shoots better than myself and my friends every time. Leaves you both embarrassed and proud at the same time.

Mike you were definitely right and I was as usual partially right. the complete list of Bonds guns is quite a lengthy one with many different models and calibers.

I've gotten back into the series and up to book 6 in the series Blood Rites.

That was a great book and Susan did do a excellent job narrating. I wish there was a second book.

Now on to Patient Zero which already I'm loving the humor and the action
