Eileen Finished The White Road I have it 5 stars. Now, I don't have a clue what to read now.

Michael (fisher_of_men) I've started in on Blue Heaven Blue Heaven by C.J. Box by C.J. Box. It's a pretty exciting thriller. First time with this author and so far, so good.

Synopsis:A twelve-year-old girl and her younger brother go on the run in the woods of North Idaho, pursued by four men they have just watched commit murder---four men who know exactly who William and Annie are, and who know exactly where their desperate mother is waiting for news of her children’s fate. Retired cops from Los Angeles, the killers easily persuade the inexperienced sheriff to let them lead the search for the missing children.

I've finished the Talbot Trilogy by David Weber (Part of the Honor Harrington Saga) and I've started Terminal Freeze by Lincoln Child. I may have read this before, but it's too early to tell. I'm doing the audio book so I can finish it in a timely manner and participate in the A/A Afictionados Group Discussion for the January group read.

Scott Brick is the Narrator and, as usualy he's doing a great job with this one. I already want to punch one character and wish one of the ladies gets eaten by (finger quotes) "bears" or falls in an ice hole somewhere. Maybe that's it, she should go fargin icehole... but I digress (Yes, that's a Johnny Dangerously reference, Michael Keaton). Whishing the attractive lady in an action book harm is rare for me... but... hheehh.. I'm just a guy (yes that's a Bill Engvall, 21 Years of Marriage reference) .

I like Preston and Childs, or in this case just Childs. SO far I'm enjoying it (the reference to appriciated potential character misfortune above is a testament to having iritating characters that I love to hate who are written to be iratating characters.

Good read so far. And since it's 15F degrees here (-9 C degrees) here right now (with the sun shining)...I can identify with them some what.

Terminal Freeze by Lincoln Child

They get better. I think he "hits his stride" about book 4. Just me of course. I like them all.

message 4460: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Smoky Valley by Donald Hamilton was a 5 star western. Just fantastic. I wish he'd written more. Here's my review:

Finished this one the other night. Great, great book. I'm looking forward to reading another story by Box.

Now I'm reading Djibouti by Elmore Leonard.

I just heard about this trilogy (and the author) last month, and after reading some glowing reviews its now on my next-read pile. All three of the books look really awesome, as well as Riddle's another stand alone sci-fi thriller Departure which seems to me has some resemblance with my most favorite TV show Lost!

I'll be interested to hear what you think of Gone Girl.

Rizwan Khalil Cyl wrote: "I am currently reading the new Dean Koontz "Saint Odd" book. I am just sorry this is the final book for Odd Thomas."

As of now, I've only read the first one: Odd Thomas. That was my favorite Koontz novel and one of the best psychological thriller I've read. How's the later ones? Can you please give me a quick flash of the other books in the series compared to the first one? Thanks :)

Eileen Magiccats wrote: "Eileen, I liked the book, but found the ending especially interesting. No spoilers."

One thing I found interesting about that book. You either liked the book or didn't...I was one of those who didn't enjoy the book. But, I do look forward the watching the movie.

I just finished Blood Work and I really liked it. Good twist and turns for a mystery.

Travis (travistousant) | 362 comments Blood Work probably my favorite Connelly as far as I have made it through his work

message 4469: by Michael (new)

Michael (fisher_of_men) Just finished Djibouti Djibouti by Elmore Leonard by Elmore Leonard. The first half of the book was murder to get through, but the second half was decent. Still, not the author's best effort. 3 stars.

There is always Weber's Honorverse... (Honor Harrington)... or if you want to go non-fiction... I'm enjoying "Who's in Charge?" by M.S. Gazzaniga.

Any feeling about genre Eileen? I've had a couple of 4 star reads lately, though I'd like to find another 5 star, LOL.

You hoping for UF, SF, Epic fantasy, Non-fiction? Feel free to browse my shelves.

message 4476: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Do you like spy thrillers? If so, Bomb: The Race to Build—and Steal—the World's Most Dangerous Weapon by Steve Sheinkin is a nonfiction sketch of the birth of the atomic bomb is the place to see where the modern ones were born. The accounts are barebones, often understated, but the outline is all there from trying to stop Hitler from building his own atomic bomb by destroying the heavy water plant in Norway (Norwegian resistance, gliders, & sabotage) to troubled scientists dealing with the morality of their works. There is also a sketch of the politics behind many of the decisions regarding the creation, use, & finally crazy proliferation of this WMD. Everyone should read it. I gave it 5 stars in my review here:

Tim The Enchanter Eileen, I looked at half your TBR list. I saw The Windup Girl and 11/22/63 which were both awesome. I see you have Skin Games on your list, if you have read the first 14 in the dresden files, the latest was one of the best.

Heart-Shaped Box
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption

Eileen You guys are great!! Thanks for all the great suggestions.

I've been browsing all your shelves to see what to read next. Very impressive gentleman.

I started Magic Bites am on chapter 4 and not sure I'll finish it. Not to say it isn't bad, just not exciting me.

Maybe I need to read something in the non fiction genre.

Eileen, that is exactly how I felt after the book I started last week so I switched to a non-fiction as well. I am reading " In the Land of Invisible Women" and finding it interesting. Not my usual genre. Sometimes we just need a change .

Then splitting time between Department Nineteen (Department 19, #1) by Will Hill (the cover got me...YA, but action packed)

and

On Her Majesty's Behalf The Great Undead War Book II by Joseph Nassise by Joseph Nassise. Yeah, the 2nd Great Undead thriller! Steampunk, military, and zombies all in one story!

Rizwan Khalil Currently just in the middle of Runner by Patrick Lee. Nonstop edge-of-seat suspense, rollercoaster thrill-ride, fast as a bullet... etc etc. Cliched I know, but every one of these praises is absolute truth for this awesome action-thriller. After The Breach Trilogy and now this, Patrick Lee has now became one of my favorite new thriller author to eagerly wait for.

message 4489: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) The Prophet The Prophet by Michael Koryta

I gave it 4 stars here.

It was another excellent mystery thriller from Koryta & well read. It was quite a bit longer than I expected, but great to the last drop.

Scott | 126 comments I finished Gone Girl. I liked it but I knew one of the key plot point before I started reading it. It would have been more shocking if I wouldn't have known.

This morning I started Pet Sematary.

Rizwan Khalil Just finished Runner by Patrick Lee. I can't praise the book and its author enough! If anyone need to read an unputdownable breathless suspenseful thrillride with some great thoughtful plot and deep 3dimentional characterizations to go by, this one sure will work.
