Hi Jeff. Welcome. We don't allow book promos outside of the Author sections and promo threads, so I had to delete your post.

Jason Koivu I'm on to Lawrence Block's Evan Tanner series. Block is mostly known as a detective/crime novelist, but the Tanner series is more action/adventure based. In The Thief Who Couldn't Sleep, the first book, Tanner starts in a Turkish prison, hides out in Ireland, and moves through Europe. It's a little bit like Indiana Jones. Good stuff!

message 4857: by Patrick (new)

Patrick I'm reading Len Deighton's first spy novel, The Ipcress File. I like it very much so far. The style is an energetic combination of high literary and Sixties British slang.

I'm reading The Nowhere Man on audio. Almost done. This is a fantastic series. I recommend it.

Reading Copp For Hire. Years ago I was into the books that were called "Men's Adventure Series". In this case I'm not sure if "Pendleton" is still "Pendleton", LOL. This is a later series about a retired cop named Copp who can't give up being a cop so he becomes a private cop....

Any police officers please forgive me, I was going with word plays on the title.

:)

Got my interest in the Men's Action Adventure genre wakened. I just sent for several "old" used paperbacks from ABEBOOKS. I'm lining my book shelves with extra paper towels to soak up the blood and I've laid in some extra Febreeze for the smell of gore and gun smoke...

I have been working on the Orphan X books by Greg Hurwitz and I love this series. The audiobooks are really great. The new book comes out later this month. I'm hoping my library gets the audiobook.

I listened to Rogue and it was more of a B level read. The narration wasn't too excited.

Now I'm listening to Promise of Wrath, book six in the Hellequin series by Steve McHugh. The narrator is awesome. I admit I'm rather fond of British people cursing and it's fun listening to the narrator endow the written curse words with life.

I read the first book over 3 1/2 years ago! Can't believe so much time has passed since starting this series!

message 4872: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) The Collection by Lance Charnes was an excellent mystery-thriller about art being used as currency in black market deals. It's the first of a series, but it's story is well resolved. I gave it a 4 star review here:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Then I went & bought the second one. I'll read it next.

After reading Doha 12 by Lance Charnes I thought this other series from him sounded interesting. I really loved his writing style. I think I will be reading this one soon as well.

Have you tried South? It's really good, although dark. It's set in the near future where people are fleeing to Mexico. It's a standalone.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Stealing Ghosts by Lance Charnes was another excellent, twisty tale of thievery in the art world. I gave it a 4 star review here:

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Spycraft: The Secret History of the CIA's Spytechs, from Communism to al-Qaeda by Robert Wallace was great. The reality of spying & the issues the techs face in real life was as good & often as exciting as any novel. I gave it a 5 star review here:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 4892: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Bloodstone by Karl Edward Wagner is one of the Kane novels. Fantastic S&S. Imagine an amoral, immortal Conan who is great with both sword & sorcery. He's found some alien tech that butts heads with sorcery as the swords swing between men & monsters. I gave it 5 stars in my review here:

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) I recently finished Thieves Like Us by Edward Anderson which is a terrific lost gem from the Depression Era about prison escapee bank robbers. I gave it 5 stars.

I'm now reading The Asphalt Jungle by W.R. Burnett, a post-WWII noir about big city crime and corruption.

Peter W Blaisdell | 3 comments Just finished Munich by Robert Harris. It's at the border between the A/A and historical fiction genres.

Very strong writing by Harris with drama throughout as Europe heads to WW2. Actual historical figures are mixed in with the two fictional protagonists. A very cool read!
